My 13 month old son has excessive facial and body hair. He had it when he was born but we were told that after sometime it will go away. But it has not. Instead his facial hair is growing and getting darker. We think its not normal for his age. As such we have made an appt with an endicrinologist. But I still need to know if any one has dealt with this and if there is a solution to it.

What can I do next?

Hi Atithi,

By chance, does either parent or other relative have more facial or body hair than normal? If so, this could be a heridity thing. I'm assuming not, because you probably wouldn't be so concerned if that were the case. Going to the endocrinologist is the right thing to do, and don't stop searching until you have an answer to it. His testosterone could be elevated which could cause this, or it could be something you would never figure out without professional help.

Don't take no for an answer. If your Mommy instincts tell you that something is wrong, it probably is. Good luck at the Dr.

Hi there,

I do not want to scare you, but I have a good friend who just this year had the same problem with her daughter. They went to the endocronologist and found a small tumor on her adrenal gland. NO WORRIES!!! It was completely benign and they had it removed. She has been fine ever since. I highly recommend you taking him asap. The younger they are the easier it is. AGAIN, I did not mean to scare you, that was not my intention, I just want you to be informed.

Good luck.

Your son is on medications that I am not familiar with. Have you asked your pediatrician if the hair growth can be attributed to the medications he is on? I would definitely question your pediatrician very thoroughly. Good luck.
