I realized that she likes a sweet milk! So I tried putting a little sugar in her milk, and she will drink it like that! Please anyone Help!! Don't want to get her used to that!!

What can I do next?

Hi C..

I know for sure getting her use to sweet anything isn't good. My Pediatrician just about bugs out if she finds out I gave my 2 year old juice of any kind. She is a big stickler on NO SUGAR for kids, they don't need it. Please don't get her use to that.

The fact that your daughter doesn't take to milk isn't a bad thing. There are lots of children who for one reason or other do not like milk. However you just have to be creative in finding other ways to get her calcium. You can get the dairy in by offering yogurt once a day, cheese daily and make pudding using whole milk daily. Do a search on google and you will find loads of info on other calcium enriched foods for your daughter that is actually healthier then cows milk.

When she drank formula, was it always cold or hot? If you always gave her warm formula, sometimes it can be that simple of you warming the milk for her.

But as for her drinking milk.. Try this:

Try 2% milk instead of whole milk.

Bright Beggnings makes a Soy Pediatric Drink in Vanilla. Its milk free and lactose free but has 230mg of calcium.

Also Organic Milk is better then soy.

Try Rice Dream Enriched Rice Milk.

Letting your toddler dip crackers or low sugar cookies in the the milk and then drinking the rest.

Another option would be Start slowly. Give your daughter formula. Then slowly over the days to come add about an ounce of whole milk with formula, the next day, two ounces of whole milk, the next 3 ounces, keep doing that until you are giving her all whole milk.. If you dont want to use formula, you can always try adding some water.

Maybe you can try a different brand of milk. I know for myself Alta Dena Milk is one my 2 year loves. If I buy other kinds of milk, she will drink it, but not to much of it

I wouldnt suggest adding any sort of mix.. ie; strawberry or chocolate , because again its sugar and they don't need it. You'll find all kinds of studies on white milk vs chocolate milk, but it doesn't matter how you put it, sugar is sugar.

Maybe whole milk is to heavy for her. Try Soy or goats milk.

If you still give her a bottle, what about trying to give her milk in a sippy cup or use a straw. She might find it fun to drink it that way.

Good luck and let us know how it went.

I just keep the blender handy...I would put in a bananna or orange (little harder to blend), pinapple, strawberries (this is a favorite), and any other fruit I know he liked. He still doesn't like plain milk 1 year later, but at least I know he is getting the recommended in take of fruits! I would love to get my blender off my counter though!

Hi C., my daughter now 19 didn't like whole milk either, and like you i tried putting sugar in it and yes she like it, but like you i didn't want to make it a habit, so I just didn't give her anything else to drink, sooner or later i knew she would get thristy, and it worked she started drinking milk on a regular basis, now at 19 she will only drink mild on her cereal unless it is chocolate milk. C.,
Try vanilla soy milk. I have a grandson that doesn't like milk either. The flavor is sweet, and he knows it isn't milk because it comes out of a carton. Until the cartons are opened they do not need to be refrigerated. Try different brands. Some taste better.

ALSO, give her vanilla yogurt. She will get her calcium. Do not get the kind with fruit in it. Just Vanilla yogurt.

Hope this helps.

Unless your daughte is a calf, don't worry about it! LOL (sorry, I just had to say that)

Don't put anymore sugar in her milk, she'll want it like that all the time - not a good habit to start. Remember, sugar is addictive and if she gets used to it at this young age (in her milk or in other forms) she'll be screaming for it all the time. Then you'll be on Mamasource asking how to wean your daughter from sugar.

Neither of my kids ever transitioned to milk. So many other ways to get calcium/vit D these days. Fortified juice, leafy greens, salmon, beans, yogurt, cheese, smoothies, rice milk, almond milk, soy milk (in moderation - for me the jury is still out on soy but we do drink it here). Like a previous post suggested, google calcium rich foods and you'll find a lot of other options - that are even better for you than cows milk.

If cows milk is what you prefer her to have than at least make sure it is Organic, or she may have boobs at 4 years old (not trying to be funny here). And, just re-introduce it at a later date but straight from the box, nothing added!

My daughter and husband do not like the taste of milk, but like soy milk. Try plain soy milk. It doesn't have the fat that cow's milk has, but you can make up for it with other dairy products.
