My son is now 13 months old. I have been trying to get him to drink breastmilk and cow's milk from a sippy cup and/or from a regular cup. He refuses. He will drink water from a sippy cup, but he will only take his milk from me or a bottle. I have decided to continue nursing him in the evenings and in the morning, but I would like to eliminate the daytime nursings and/or bottles. Is this one of those things that he will do in his own time? Is there something more I can do to encourage him? I realize that at his age, he still has a strong need to suck. That's one of the reasons I've decided to continue nursing him part of the time. I would appreciate any advice.
He will eventually give up these nursings (daytime, etc) however it depends on how long you're wanting to let him go!! (I let mine wean themselves and one went 3.5 yrs, one went a little over a year and one is still going, 4 months) so there ya go!!

Had a similar issue with my son at about that age, try the Nuby sippy cups. They were a nice compromise between bottles and hard-nozzle cups.
Be aware that they can bite through the tips and them it will not be spill-proof. But they are pretty cheap so replacing them is not too much of an issue when they do this. And this with the new cups... they will give up just when you think they won't.

My son was the same way. He is now 2 years old. He actually weaned himself from the bottle. I just kept offering him the milk in the cup and eventully he took it. I also kept talking to him about being a big boy and made a big deal about the cup he was drinking from. I know this may not help your exact issue but I hope you find encouragement in not being alone. Sometimes I know when I am going through a rough spot it can feel like I am the only one that ever went through it! :) Good Luck, E.
As long as there are other options, he won't take the sippy. If you want to be done with bottles, just take them all away. If it's not an option, he may fuss at first, but he'll adjust pretty quickly. If you want to continue nursing, by all means do so, but if you want to stop, he's not going to dehydrate if you do. Again, he'll adjust. Children this age are really more adaptable than we give them credit for!
Walmart sells Nuby sippy cups, it is a cup but it has a nipple spout, that is what worked for us for a while, then we transitioned to toss away cups with the hard spout. Just remember they won't suck a bottle forever, so it takes time. I understand how you could feel like it just seems like it takes forever. We try to give out daughter a cup without a lid every now and then, even though it spills everywhere, it will eventually teach her not to dump it upside down tot ae a drink out of it :)
We tried every kind of sippy cup, even Nuby, but our son wouldn't drink out of them-only a bottle. Our doctor told us to stop bottles cold turkey, but after 5 days of no milk (only water), we gave up. We bought chocolate and strawberry milk and gave it to our son in one of those water bottles with a spout. He drank that, and after about a week would drink flavored milk from a sippy cup because he liked the taste so much. We eventually put less and less of the flavoring in until he was happily drinking milk from a sippy cup. Good luck-I know it's stressful!
