12 Week Old Baby Sleeping to Much During the Day?

My 12-week-old daughter, it seems to me, has been sleeping a lot during the day. I am a first time mommy so I don't have any other point of reference. We usually put her down for the night around 9:30, after a bath and feeding. She then has been sleeping till about 3:30am, feeding and going back down, and then waking up again around 6:30am. This morning I fed her and played with her till about 8:15am, when she got cranky. So I swaddled her, gave her the pacifier and held her and she was asleep within minutes. So I put her down, swaddled, in the bouncy seat. She was still asleep at noon! I had to wake her up to feed her. And now, it's 1:30pm and she is asleep again. I put her in the swing so I could eat some "real" food. It remains to be seen how long she will sleep this time. Usually, we would be out for a walk now and she will fall asleep in the stroller (raining today, so no walk). Is this much sleep normal? Is there anything I should do?

I wouldn't worry about her sleeping so much. She's only 3 months, and the little ones need lots of sleep! My daughter (now 18 mo.) slept quite a bit as a newborn...and even now SHE tells ME that she wants a nap, even when I think it's too early to put her down. I really think babies know just how much sleep they need, so I suggest you enjoy it while it lasts! Once they get mobile, you'll be wishing she slept more! Haha. Good luck!

Growth spurt. Enjoy. Take a nap, read a book, get the laundry done, and be compassionate towards fellow mothers whose babies don't sleep that much (like mine). Enjoy your sweet baby!

Might be a result of 3 mo growth spurt. My kids always ate a ton one week and slept the following week.
Good luck

It's perfectly normal!! I like to say there is no schedule to babies sleeping! My daughters tend to sleep alot when they are approaching a developmental milestone! My daughter 13 week old slept the other night from 9:30 - 6:30! I was delighted and then last night back to waking up at 2 and 6:30 am! Oh well! They don't call it sleepless nights for nothing! HTH!

I would put her to bed earlier. My son wasn't sleeping as well at the beginning but when we changed to a 7pm bedtime he slept much better at night and took more regular naps during the day. If you can get your baby to sleep 11 to 12 hours at night she should nap less during the day. At that age my son would go to sleep at 7pm with 2 wake ups for feeding (around 12 and 4) and then get up at 6:30 or 7 am. He then took 3 naps during the day each for about an hour. I tried to keep him on a pretty regular schedule which seemed to help.
Good luck!

Praise the Lord!!

I wish my kids would've slept that long for me...lol.

The doctor's were crazy when they told me to wake my kids up every two hours to feed them. I believe in letting "sleeping dogs lay".

I don't think you should have any concerns unless the sleeping disrupts your schedule.

She is fine and growing. Before you know it you will be asking ...... why can't you just sleep :) Baby number 3 slept .... no lie..... 22 hours a day. I felt like I did not even have a new baby. That was 9 months ago and I was up every hour last night asking ...... can we please go back to sleep. Enjoy your time to yourself.... it makes you a better mommy!!!

At this age babies shouldn't be awake more than 1.5 to 2 hours at a time during the day before you put them down again.

It's not only normal - it's healthy!
