Take him outside once a day. Try taking him out at the same time everyday. Take a walk, throw a ball around, get him a toy to ride in/on. My daughter loves her little tykes car and her fisher price lion! Stay out for 30 minutes to an hour. This will wear him out. Plan it for before a meal and bedtime. Stick dinner in the oven, go play outside. Feed him, bathe him and put him to bed, or feed him take him outside and then put him down for a nap.

This will help establish a schedule for him.

I have a 12 month old daughter. And I am a housewife, my husband is deployed. Me and my daughter dont really do anything all day long. She usually wakes up between 10-11 am. We have breakfast, she plays. Around 1 she gets fussy and we eat again. Now she is wanting to fight her sleep. I think shes ready to go to just one nap a day, she was taking two. So, by 2, she'll fall asleep. I clean and do whatever. She will wake up by 4 and we just play and watch tv, usually my sister will come over with her 8 month old and my daughter will play with him and she likes to play with our dogs. We stay up until about 11 or 12.

Hi K.,

My little boy is 12 months too. He usually wakes up at
7:30 and we have breakfast around 8:30. We play for about an hour and a half and then he has his nap around 10:00. If the weather is nice, sometimes we will go to the park. Also, check out your local library. I live in OK and they has a lapsit class for free on Tuesdays. It's basically just free play and then we sit together for storytime. You could go to the mall and play in the childrens center there. Sometimes I will just take my son outside to get the mail and he'll walk around outside for a while. I usually bring him from room to room while I am cleaning or he will help me with the laundry. I have also joined a moms club. We meet up for things throughout the week. Its only 23$ a year to join. Maybe you could start a playgroup in your community. Just meet up once a week to play or just have some company. My sons afternoon nap is usually around 2:30. Then I spend the rest of the evening getting dinner
ready, usually with him attached to my leg. Sometimes I will give him a snack to keep him occupied while I am getting things ready. We eat dinner around 6 and then play for a bit before bathtime. He is usually tired enough after his bath to go to bed around 8:30. Have you introduced him to crayons yet? I tried giving them to my son, he stuck them in his mouth, of course so make sure they are the non toxic kind and you watch him closely. Hopefully these are some ideas for you. Good luck!

My son just turned one. I am also a stay at home mom while my husband is deployed. He gets up around 8 typically, give or take 30 minutes. He takes two naps per day, one approximately 2 hours after he gets up (around 10-11AM) and typically sleeps for 2 hours. Then we have lunch. If I have any errands to run, I do it at this time. He then goes down for a second nap around 3:30ish and sleeps for 60-90 minutes. Dinner is around 5 or 5:30, then he's up until bedtime. I give him a bottle around 8 and he's in bed by 9.

My son loves to be outside, so I try to walk around my community as often as possible. I also play with him, not allowing him to just try to do everything himself. Kids this age have short attention spans, so you have to offer a variety of activities to keep them engaged and learning.
