11 Year Old Daughter with Stomach Pain

My 11 year old daughter has a UTI. She is on medication for it. Her doctor also felt my daughters stomach and said she feels constipated and gave her something for that, too. Now my daughters stomach is a little bloated on either side of her belly button. She said it aches, kinda like she has been doing sit ups. It has been since Monday when she was diagnosed with her UTI and the constipation. What does this sound like to you?

What can I do next?

It could still be the constipation (it can be very uncomfortable if it gets to a certain point). From your description, it does not seem over the top painful, so I would let it be for a little while. If the pain increases I would definitely call the pediatrician or take her in.

Also, bloating can be a symptom of pms. While some girls do not start menstruating until their teen years, 11 is a completely normal age as well. If she has not started her period yet, it might be coming soon.

Could be the UTI, could be constipation, or it could be that she has a kidney infection if the UTI hasn't been resolved. Kidney infections are fairly painful. If she's not feeling better in the morning, I might take her back in. Hope she feels better soon!

Well, has she had a good BM since Monday or not?

If no, than that's probably causing the discomfort.

Also, she's so young to have a UTI, and if her put her on antibiotics, she could be developing the classic antibiotic stomach ache that goes with killing all the good gut bacteria. So start her up on yogurts or pro-biotics.

Do you think maybe she's about to get her period for the first time? That can certainly cause bloating and pain. She wouldn't know to identify the pain as cramps if she's never experienced them before.

Either way, I'd take her back to the doc before the weekend.
