11 Month Old Typical Schedule

My sone just turned 11 months old. He has had a great schedule of sleeping 9-10 hours at night and two naps - 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. This past week he has not wanted to take an afternoon nap. Perhaps he is weaning himself to 1 nap a day? Is this okay at this young age. I am looking for typical schedules of 11 month or 1 year olds....Thank you! Happy Holidays!

What can I do next?

My son will be 14 months and is on a similar schedule but now down to one nap a day. Two if he is under the weather. From the time we brought him home he has slept through the night. I too am hoping this schedule will not change abruptly. Hope this has been helpful. Happy Holidays!

Hey A.,

I own a childcare center and around 1 we start to transition our babies to one nap a day. It is a process because some days they still need the two naps. It can take a few weeks because you want to take it slow. Our one year old schedule is lunch at around 11:30 and naps at 12:00 for around 2- 21/2 hours depending on the child. If he is ready then I would let him. I would also put him in for an early bedtime around 7 so he can make up for the lost nap. I am not sure but I think he should be sleeping around 11 to 12 hours per night. hope this helps and happy holidays to you too!!!

I know every kiddo is different, but it seems early to me. My son is almost 12 months old, and he sleeps 12 hours a night and still takes two naps a day. (Between 1.5-2 hrs each nap.)

But like everything else with our kids- just listen to your gut. You'll be able to tell if he's cranky, tired, etc. And you're the expert when it comes to your baby! :)

I think it depends on the child. I have a 15 month old and she takes 2 naps still. Not always consisitant, but usually the case. It depends on when they wake up, does he need a early nap or a later nap?? Try different things, it can't hurt and good luck. We are all there with you. Wish they can sleep day and night.lol!

Hi,
My daughter just turned 11 months old this month and she sleeps from about 7:30-8:00pm to about 4-5am with an occassional wake up for nursing mid night. She generally takes a morning nap within 4 hours of waking and an afternoon nap no later than 4pm. I noticed too that my daughter will refuse an afternoon nap at times and then I will put her down a little earlier on those days. I am just going with the flow on most days and I'm not sure if growing spurts and changes in diet may affect sleep.

Best of luck with sleeping! Enjoy your holiday season!

Yes, that's okay. My daughter weaned herself to one nap at 12 months. As long as he gets at least 12 hours a day, he's only regardless of how many naps he's taking.

For my son, who is the same age, I have slowly been pushing the morning nap up and now it starts closer to 11 am and is usually a little bit longer. His afternoon nap is getting shorter now too. Maybe your son is starting to transition to one nap, but because of this, you have to make sure he is getting enough sleep at night. It sounds like he needs to be sleeping more at night- do you put him to bed early enough? 7 or 7:30 should be good, and then he should sleep until about 7 am.

I think it varies depending on the child. My 13 month old still takes two naps for about an hour each and really needs them both. (She sleeps 10 1/2 to 11 hours at night.) My neighbor however, transitioned her daughter to one nap at around 11 months as she seemed ready. She'd nap for 2 1/2 to 3 hours!

I agree with the early bedtime. An extra hour or so at night may allow you to push the morning nap off a bit, ultimately becoming one late morning/early afternoon nap and then an afternoon one. You can always experiment with it. Just try not to let him get overtired during the process. Let us know how it goes. I expect to be there pretty soon.

I would say yes he is weaning himself off of the two naps. He probably needed them when he was younger, as do us mothers...lol. My daughter is 19 months and she started just taking her one long afternoon nap around the age of 1 as well. She sleeps from 8am-7am and around 12 noon she is ready for her one nap of the day, and sleeps for about 2-2 1/2 hours, and then back in bed at 8pm. Its just another schedule to get used to, but im sure he is now getting stronger and more energy as they get older and start walking. Good Luck!!!
