11 Month Old Refuses to Eat Baby Food - Randolph,NJ

My daughter fights anything I try to feed her on a spoon, but loves to eat frozen mini waffles, teething biscuits, and anything she can pick up. She still has a hard time eating anything small, like cut up pasta, b/c she can't get it from the tray to her mouth w/o it falling on the floor.

Any ideas what I can feed her that is nutritious to take the place of the baby food? Maybe I should try mashing potatoes, so it's sticky enough for her to pick up??

What can I do next?

You've answered your own question......stick to anything she can pick up. The response previous to mine made some awesome suggestions and she's right, just get creative! That grill cheese idea is great, as you can get some veggies in there. Make little pizza's out of mini bagels or cut up bagel. Set them up on a cookie sheet, tablespoon of sauce, handful of mozzarella or whatever cheese you like and into the oven with them. They should be ready in no time. Give her some time to develop her motor skills and she will be getting it into her mouth soon enough. Good Luck!

I used to make smoothies for my son using yogurt as a base to get all the good probiotics into him- and I'd add organic bananas and frozen berries and powdered green supplements (where they juice vegetables and then evaporate the liquid leaving a powder- I know "Amazing Grass" has a kids green powder and I'm sure other companies do). Then I'd put it into a favorite cup with a straw. That was the only way he'd eat veggies for a while.

At her age just about anything,

try fish filets, and cut them up for her, they are soft on the inside

boiled vegetables, like broccoli and cheese, easy to pick up and smushy once she gets going

stewed beef and chicken in the crock pot add potatoes and carrots

peas and pasta

mac n cheese

spagetti and meatballs

grilled cheese
grilled panini

baked potatoe

baked sweet potato

dole fruit cups

Its gonna be messy at first so put a sheet of plastic under her chair, and let her have at it, and in a few days she will figure out how to feed herself and cheese on noodles and veggies makes it stickier and easier to hold onto
PLAIN pasta with out sauce is sticky too.
And Day old pasta is sticky and easier to grab.

meats are easy to grab and stewed meat is soft and easy to chew.

Good luck

ours does the same, but once in a while we can sneak in a fruit or two!!

any steamed veggies are a great texture and easy to chew with few teeth...fruit is difficult steam...can be stringy...but bananas cut up cubed are a hit...avacado is exremely great for them!...baked potatoes and sweet pot...cube them and roll them in salt and butter...yummy. also, try all natural veggie burger and dice them...try to stay away from wheat pastas- nutritionless and totally processed. stick to WHOLE GRAIN bread...for grill cheese, add some veggies in the middle....peas or carrots (steamed), slices of squash! be creative! also, remember that her main source of nutrients is still formula...this is just getting her used to textures and different tastes!

also- give her yogurt or baby food to play with on her tray while you try and scoop a bite in her mouth..it may be messy, but she will be so preoccupied, you can give her anyting!

stay away from citrus or acidic foods (tomotoes)
