My 11 month old has been on azithromyocin for 2 days. He has been tired and cranky since being on it. He also isn't interested in eating or his bottle. Has anyone else had a child on this medication and what side effects did you notice?

What can I do next?

My 8 month old went on it and 2 times and yes we saw the same changes. Good luck and just give him hugs and keep him comfortable, that is my only two cents. Sorry couldn't be more. My son snapped back to his normal happy, eating baby after we were off of it. Hope this helps a tad. M.

my daughter had the same problems. She wouldn't eat much the first 2-3 days, but it got better. I actually went on it right after her, and it made me nauseous and crampy. I understood why she wasn't hungry and was cranky. Try to keep a lot of milk in her tummy at least - she loved yogurt it really coated her tummy.

First question, why is your little boy on the medicine? It may not be the medicine,it may be because of whatever reason he is on it. It will take a couple days for the symptoms to get better.

It's possibly not the medication but whatever he's on it for.

I echo the others' thoughts that he may not be feeling well due to whatever infection he's experiencing. It can take antibiotics a few days to kick in.

It could very well be upsetting his stomach; antibiotics are notorious for that. Yogurt or kefir with live active cultures will help immensely. Also, I know they sell probiotics in powder form.--I never bought it so I can't give you anymore info.

my 15 month old son was put on that about 6 months agao. he is allergic to amoxocillion for his ears so they put him on that and he didnt seem to have any side affects from it but ive heard it is a harsher medicin that can be harsh on the tummy. i would call and ask his pediatricion if you should keep him on it or try something else. my son has an ear infection now and they put him on a different medicine again but he is doing fine with it. the medicine may be to much for him and making his tummy upset. i hope he feels better soon.

My son had that same anti-biotic when he was about a year old and it tastes nasty. I couldn't figure out why, cause it smelled like bubble gum medicine, so I tasted it my self, and at first yeah, it tasted good. But the after taste was something nasty. The only way I could think to describe it was like someone putting a rusty penny into your mouth. Yuck! But yeah, sometime anti-biotics take a tole on an appetite, or he's just ill and will be better soon....good luck..

Do you think it may be because he is sick and not from the medication? My son always gets tired and has no appetite when he is sick.
