hi, I have a strong willed 11 month old girl. She hates a lot of activities including diaper changes and getting dressed. Otherwise she is very sweet, inquisitive, and well behaved. The latest problem we have that is quite disturbing is that she now detests strolling. Whether she is facing forward, in her carseat in the stroller, or in the little umbrella stroller doesn't matter. Toys don't help. I am really upset because I looked forward to strolling with her all winter, and I am 4 months pregnant now and really would like to start getting more exercize. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

If she is walking, let her put her doll in the stroller and push it for a few minutes, then tell her it's the dolly's turn to push her, put her in and hold the doll at the handlebars. I also carried mine sometimes (yes, even when pregnant) in a sling, which you can use while carrying her on your hip to support her bottom. You can try finding a toddler exercise video and both of you do it together (my mom lost lots of weight doing "chicken fat" on TV when I was little.) If she hates sitting in the stroller, she's probably bored, same as when she gets her diaper changed, so take comfort in the fact that she's probably very intelligent.

When our son started hating stroller we got him Step 2 buggy that parents can push. I still could go for my walks and he liked riding in the car. What I liked about this kind that it has seat belt....they also make it in pink.
PS Wait till she is 3, she'll want to ride in the stroller again.......and for our oldest simple stroller does not do it, he wants all the comfort he can get:)

Let her help you buckle her in. When my kids got "antsy" with strolling-- I would pack a snack for them. I would give them cheerios and I would pack water or juice. That would always last for 30 mins.

I have the same problem with my 10 month old. Try a baby backpack. Even when you are pregnant, it can be comfortable. I have a $250 stroller that I have totally ditched in favor of an 80s baby backpack that I got on Freecycle!

you could try the little strollers that look like a car, but you push it. she may have fun "driving" around the block. also, is she walking? if so, you may want to try a harness so that she can walk with you, and you can hold the end of the tether so she cant run out in the road or get away from you.

My initial response is just keep putting her in it! Put her in it at home and push her around some in the house; if you do so every day, and put up with her fussing/crying/whatever, eventually she will come to expect it and will accept it as part of her routine. Then you can move on to taking her out in it, for brief periods to start, and then for longer periods. A strong willed child is a handful, and if she doesn't get the message that your will is even stronger than hers, you will have a hard time managing her when the baby is born! I really think she will soon come to accept it, and before long, you can be out pushing her in the sunshine enjoying the pretty weather.
