11 Month Old Does Not Want Bottle Anymore

My son who is 11 months is refusing his bottle. Usually he would down 8 ounces but now I am lucky if he takes 4. I know that I need to wean him from his bottle soon but his iron was a little low and he usually drinks more out of a bottle. Any suggestions as to why he is doing this? He is on sippy cups but only sips from them....

What can I do next?

Try giving him his formula in a sippy cup. Maybe he just doesn't need the sucking anymore. You can still get the formula into him, just try it through a different means. If the sippy cup doesn't work, try one with a straw. Good luck.

He probably sees his big brother drinking from a cup and wants to join in the fun. I would ask the pediatrician for supplements if he's not going to take the bottle.

Hi P.!!
I also have a 3 1/2 year old son, as well as two sons who are 19 months and 6 months old. I would consider yourself lucky that he is giving up the bottle independently!!! If you take it away from him althogether, he will certainly begin to drink from the sippy cup more due to his thirst. You can also try one of those cups with the straw - he should be able to begin to learn how to use this, although it may take more time and patience on your end, although once they get the hang of it they seem to master it pretty quickly. As far as the iron deficiency goes, maybe you can bulk up on his iron rich solids, or talk to the doctor about adding iron drops to his milk and or juice. Good Luck!!

My son was six months when he did not want a bottle any more. He was breast fed until 4 months (he got teeth) so I trained him to first take milk, water or juice from a straw, them progressed to a sippy cup with a straw in it. They will take what they want and will be able to sustain with other foods. I used to make sure h got plenty of fruits with lots of juices in them, he loved watermelon. Hope this works... or hope it is not an issue any longer.

Try giving him the baby youghurt drinks. I think Gerber makes them. You can find them in the baby isle. Also, he just might be more "interested" if he is using a sippy cup like his older brother. Best of luck!

he's probably watching you drink from a cup and wants the same thing.. get him on sippy cups! use a straw if he can't quite handle it, but he should be fine..

He could be teething, or distracted. Keep trying, or try a few kinds of sippy cups, he might be ready for those. Good luck.
