My son is 11 months old and has been eating people foods for 2 weeks. He still drinks his milk and eats oatmeal. Just to get an idea, what does an 11 month old diet consist of?

The book "What to Expect the First Year" has some great advice (albeit they give the ideal diet, which seems a bit over the top) but it is a great starting point.

I see that you have received some good responses as well as resources, but I want to add something. Please do not start your baby on junk food and fast food yet.

I remember shopping with my sister and our babies who are only 4 months apart. I was completely appalled when my sister stopped at McDonalds to get chicken nuggets and fries for my 13 month old neice. These foods are high in preservatives, chemicals, and saturated fats.

Do not introduce your baby to bad eating habits. What you give him now will influence his tastes for a very long time. Give him healthy foods that are high innutrients, and these are the foods he will want.

I used to make my girls pancakes, but I would add about a cup of applesauce and a 1/2 cup of uncooked baby cereal to the mix. It adds a lot of good vitamins and the applesauce makes them really soft.

A few other things are: fresh mango, avacado (really easy to eat and great for you), frozen chunk fruit defrosted and cut up, gerber puffs (or wal-mart brand), zweiback toast.

Ditto on the other mom's comment about junk food. It is an easy trap to get into. My girls are two and so they have it some now, but I'd wait as long as possible. For a long time I would take them most of their lunch at fast food and just get them something like a yogurt or soft serve ice cream for their treat vs. an entire fried kid meal. You also have to watch the crackers for snacks as they get bigger. I try to at least mix it up with raisins or dried fruit to make it better. It is hard when you're busy to feed them well but it can be done! Good luck! :)

My daughter just turned one and is still nursing 5 times a day, but also eats table foods. Breakfast---cheerios soaked in milk or toasted english muffin cut in bite size pieces Lunch and Dinner---cut up lunch meat, diced fresh fruit (strawberries, blueberries, peaches, etc), or whatever the rest of the family is eating, just cut up in small bite size pieces---like spaghetti, rice, macaroni, ground beef, cooked chicken. Unfortunately, she refuses anything that comes at her in a spoon, so baby foods are out! And she has a nut allergy and milk/soy intolerance, so her food choices are pretty limited.

Some favorites of my son when he was 12 months: cheese toast, diced ham/pork, ground beef, chicken, diced cheese, macaroni, most fruits, and limited vegs.

Hi there,
My little guy is also 11 months old and eats what we eat. When I am crunched for time, I will feed him a Gerber Graduate toddler meal (because for now he will still eat them) or a Kids Cuisine meal. Other than that, he eats what we do. We just make sure to cut it up in small pieces he can handle. Just the other night he ate an Arby's Beef and Cheddar with me and their potato cakes. I like to give him all different sorts of things to try. He loves vegetables so as much as I can I make sure he has veggies and fruit with every meal. For fruit, I will cut up fresh cantaloupe or give him the fruit cups in the store or mandarin oranges or bananas...you get the idea. I have been told by lots of people, give him what you eat and see what he does with it. They are more responsive than we think, and boy have I seen that....! Hope this helps!!!!

My 10 month old eats 3 meals a day, 1 snack, 3 bottles. Always cheerios and oatmeal with a baby food fruit mixed in for breakfast, and any of the following for the other 2 meals based on what I'm cooking or have left over:
sweet potato fries sprinkled with cin. and baked
broccoli-just the floret part steamed
green beans-fresh steamed or canned
grilled asparagus, squash, baked egg plant
fruit cups
she will take bites out of a whole peach
lunch meat
cheese
german sausage, brats, hamburger, bbq chicken, fish
pasta of any kind
bread, grilled cheese or ham and cheese
tortilla, beans-refried or black, rice, guacamole
potato salad, mashed potatoes, baked, baked in squares,
yogurt, gold fish, graham crackers, saltines, Nilla wafers 1 only for desert after dinner-she loves it! And I'm sure there is much more that I'm just not thinking about right now...but pretty much anything we eat except fast food, nuts, berries, and citrus/acidic foods. But I have to admit; we shared a big mac once...I was in a rush!
I usually try to keep it balanced, sometimes we skip a meat at lunch if she is having yogurt and will be getting a meat at dinner, the bulk of her nutrition still comes from formula but I am trying to get the balanced act down before she switches to whole milk. She started table foods at 7.5 months so she has worked her way up to a lot of stuff...just try small bites for now and he'll be holding his own green bean before too long.

An 11 mo old should eat whatever you are eatting at home and healthy but put it through the food grinder for some things and others he can gum/chew it up. Just NO fastfood, if you are going to give a hamburger or fastfood type items make them fresh at home so there is less to no fat. the Gerber finger foods and starter meals are great too. I won' recommend a salad, but differnt fresh veggies and fruits are great. No honey till 12mos since it can't be digested yet.

Send me your e-mail and I will send you a chart. It is a chart the gov food program gave us as I am a Home Day Care. It is approved by the and sponsored by the USDa. Also they need whole milk until they ar 2. They found babies need the fat for their brain development. G. W

Ah the eternal question, what DO babies eat?? My daughter goes through stages for sure but at 11 months she was eating a lot of string cheese, avocado, cheerios, yogart, waffles, steamed (VERY SOFT) carrots and canned pears. Everything was, of course, cut into tiny pieces. At a year she added oranges, strawberries and almond butter and jam sandwiches on whole grain bread. Good luck!

I feed my 11 month old son baby food fruits and veggies because we eat mostly raw veggies which are too hard for a baby. He,also, gets to practice feeding himself with his spoon. I feed him Cheerios, whole wheat Goldfish, broken up saltine crackers and rice cakes for snack time. For meals I give him whole wheat toast with a little buttery spread, grilled cheese sandwiches cut into small bites, pasta cooked well with tomato sauce(messy!!), soft cheese, yogurt, and baby oatmeal. He loves when I make him bread dipped in egg which I sprinkle a little cinnnamon and sugar mixture on and then cook it on the stove or don't use the cinnamon and sugar and melt a little cheese over the top when it is almost finished cooking. My first son has always been extremely picky, so I'm having a blast feeding my second because he likes almost everything. Hope this helps!

If he is eating what you are or close to the same, that's great! Just be sure to balance it: 1 meat, 1 or 2 veggies, 1 fruit, 1 grain and then milk/formula/breast.

Another thing to remember is that his stomach is not very big. You can always give him more food, but you can't put it back if you give him too much. Start small and then see what he does. He'll "talk" to you if you "listen".
