10 Year Anniversary Trip

Hi everyone,
I know there was another post put out in February about this very same thing, but I'm hoping that there are some new members that can offer different advice (no offense to those that responded to the previous post!).

Our 10 year anniversary is coming up Oct. 4. We've waited too long to get a passport, so our desire to go somewhere beachy like Mexico or Jamaica is out of the question at this point in time. I really don't want to go to Florida or California. We've been to Vegas before. I would love to go to Hawaii, but the travel time is not feasible sense we've got childcare for 5 days. Anybody have any suggestions for destinations in the continental US? Do you need a passport for those Galveston cruises?

What can I do next?

Sounds like you might be interested in warmer weather but NYC is wonderful in the fall. The days are still comfortable and there is so much to see and do. My husband and I go every fall and see shows, have nice dinners and basically wander around. We have done the Galveston cruises but if you want my honest opinion they are sort of disappointing if you have ever cruised before. The ships are older and in general the service and ammenities are just OK, not stellar like some of the other cruises we have taken.
They are not bad but for a little bit more $$ you could take a nicer cruise on a newer ship and travel to better places.

I just thought of one more thing Puerto Rico is very nice also, no passport required. They have lots of nice beaches, nightlife, outdoor activities, and the climate is always wonderful. I know you said no CA, but Napa is still one of my favorite spots for relaxing, so many great spas.
Good luck deciding and have a great vacation and anniversary!!!

My stepmother drove down to Austin to get a passport faster. I don't know the details, but see if that works so you can still have that memorable vacation after a decade of marriage! Hope you have fun! L.

What about the US side of Niagara Falls? I've been to the Canadian side, which was beautiful and romantic. B&Bs always add to the romance.... for me. But you might prefer hotels.

The fall colors in Colorado are beautiful in mid to late Sept. Since it is not ski season yet the prices are also lower for accomodations.

How about a trip to the Northeast? At that time it is peak foliage in certain areas-breathtaking and VERY romantic.

We are celebrating 10 yrs Nov. 29. We are sailing on the Carnival cruiseline 11/11-11/18, for this sailing you do not need a passport.

Hi A.! My DH and I are celebrating our 10th anniversary on October 4 too! We have two little boys, but no girls (yet). Anyway, I second someone's idea to go to New England. We've never been, but it's on our list. I would love to stay at a cute little B&B in Connecticut or Vermont, check out the foliage, the historical sites, and the east coast.

We're going to Disney World for our anniversary - taking our parents so they can babysit in the evenings. But we're Disney fanatics, so we always seem to end up at Disney World or Disneyland for every major event.

Have fun, and congratulations on your 10th!

The New England states are beautiful that time of year. Maybe you could stay at a bed n breakfast. I personally love Boston and Vermont. There's a picturesque little seaside town in Massachusetts called Scituate that is so quaint. If you like sailing, you could check that out. Also, New York City is really fun...you could take in some shows, do some early Christmas shopping, etc... I've got 17 years in the travel industry so feel free to call or email me for more ideas.

You can download a "Powersearch" toolbar that compares 11 different travel websites all at once to find you the best airfare and hotel prices. Very cool and time-saving. It's at www.DreamTripStore.com. There are also some great deals on that site for trips in October to 5 star resorts in Manzanillo, MX, Barbados and Jamaica. The prices might just make you decide to expedite that passport request!

Good luck!

We always have a great time in Chicago. Lots to see and tons of places to eat. It also has a great night life. We went there for our 5 year anniversary and had a blast. I'm not sure about the Galveston cruises but you can call a travel agent and find out. Have a great trip and congrats on 10 years!!

For cruises you will not need a passport until next year. It is recommended you have one though should there be an emergency or some other issue that requires you to have to fly.

What about New York or somewhere along the East Coast besides Florida?
