My son seems to love to walk but only if someone is hold his hands. If he's standing on his own he just stands there. He doesn't seem to want to move it along.
How did you get your children to move it along???
just wanted to add, he'll do it when he's ready and 10 months old is early! My girls are almost 16 months and are just now starting to walk without holding something or someone.. They are more towards the late end of the spectrum, but not off it..
Well, I for one, never "rushed" walking! I kinda liked the stage just before my boys started walking on their own. I knew I could catch them then :) Keep in mind that while many babies walk around their first birthday, many more don't take their first, unassisted steps until much later - 15 or 16 months old. Enjoy each stage, encourage and praise HIS achievements.
And not to start an argument, BUT contrary to the mom who commented on crawling - not all babies crawl. Some scoot, others roll, others scootch along on the seat of their pants. Some do go right to walking. It has nothing to do with learning or intelligence.

My daughter did the same thing for months. After I let do she would just stand for a minute, then plop her self down and start crawling.
When he feels secure, he'll walk on his own.
At 10 months they don't really have the balance and cordination to move forward on their own. My 10 month old is the same way, she loves to walk in her walker or cruise on the furniture but she can't take steps on her own. My first was the same exact way and actually wasn't able to walk on his own until his first birthday.
Once they start though it's non stop trouble so enjoy the peace now!

He will walk independently at his own pace. He will probably hold on to things like a table or couch as he walks at first until he builds his balance, confidence and security. Before you know it he will be walking and getting into things all over the house. DON'T push him! He's only ten months old, not being able to walk at this age is perfectly normal. If you would like to buy some toys to help him gain his independence during this process I recommend a baby shopping cart/walker that has handle bars and wheels for him to move around easily and yet still hold on to something for security.
He'll get the hang of it soon enough. It sounds like he's building up his confidence to walk. My son was the ultimate cruiser for about two months, and then all of a sudden he took off walking. It was almost as if he just needed the reassurance that he wasn't going to fall and, bam... off he went.
Enjoy this time. Soon enough he'll be running and you'll be wishing that he wasn't so mobile!
what's your hurry? enjoy it while he can't move too far away from you. he'll walk when he's ready.
I agree with everyone else's responses. Babies walk when they're ready. They need to build confidence first. My son was pulling up at 7 months and cruising by 8 months. AT 10 1/2 months he took his first steps and by 11 months he was like a pro!
I have heard that "walking wings" are a great tool to give the little ones some confidence and so you don't have to hunch over and hold their hands when they're walking. You can get them at Babies R Us.

He'll walk alone when it's to his advantage to do it. My oldest grandson would walk unless he wanted to get somewhere fast. If speed was needed he'd drop to his knees and crawl every time. You can try standing just out of his reach and seeing if he'll walk to you.
My advice would be not to worry and you'll be running after him in no time at all.

He will walk when he is ready. If you'd like to take it to the next level, just hold something he loves about 5 steps ahead of him and if he's ready, he'll walk to you. Don't be in such a rush, they walk soon enough and before you know it they are in kindergarten. Boys for the most part are lazy walkers, my nephew did not start to walk 'til he was 11 months old and my best friends son, didn't start walking until his first birthday. Good luck!
