My daughter was such a great sleeper from 10 weeks on sleeping through the night. For the past 3-4 months she is waking in the middle of the night, stands in her crib screaming. She shares a room with her brother, so we don't let her scream for long. We take her in our room and give her a nice warm bottle and she will then go back to bed with her nuk. Any advice on how to get her back on track. 2 weeks we kept her up until 10:30pm and it seemed to get her back on track for about 5 days (sleeping from 10:30-7:00am without waking. Now she's back to the same thing, waking 2-3 times a night (10:30, 2:30 and 5:00am). My son doesn't usually wake up when she is doing this, but we will go get her because one is easier to deal with then two in the middle of the night. Help!!

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the great responses. I may try putting my son in our bed and I will sleep in his for the night see what happens. She is teething, but the teeth are already broke through, she is very active, so she should be exhausted at bed time. she only takes two 1.5-2 hour naps a day. Last night she was up every 2 hours. I willing to try anything

We just had almost the exact same situation happen to use. We tried everything, except letting her cry since she shares a room with her sister. We decided to have our older daughter come into our room when she started to cry so her sleep was not interupted. I then went and slept in my daughter's bed, so the baby could see me. She actually went back to bed, without crying. I think she just wanted to know I was there with her. This went on about two more nights, and now she is sleeping through the night again.
We also thought that our older daughter was sleeping through the crying. I had told her before she went to bed if she heard her sister crying to get up and go into Mom and Dads bed. That same night when the baby cried, she immediatly got up and went into my bed. So, we were wrong and the crying did wake her up every night. Good luck!!

I know sometimes this can happen when seperation anxiety hits its peak. That may be why she can sleep when she knows your in the room.

My 10 month old has been doing a simlar thing and waking up VERY early in the morning... in her case, she was just HUNGRY!!! I could feel her little stomach growl! As soon as I would feed her, she would want to go back to bed!

Since then, I've tried to give her more table food than the rice and baby food. I've also been giving her drinkable yougart at night right before bed to keep the hungrys away... so far... it's working...

Good luck!
Jen~

Hi - A few thoughts for you!

Is your daughter doing anything relatively new, such as pulling up, cruising? I ask since this off disrupts normal sleep patterns.

Is she eating enough before bedtime? If this is part of a growth spurt, she may need more nutrients by the end of the day to sustain her until morning.

Is there an alternative you can try with her or your son for a couple of nights? She may just be in a habit of waking, getting attention and a bottle, etc and therefore not learning how to soothe herself to sleep.

I could be a few different things. It might be teeth. In this case, use the usual remedies. It could be a growth spurt, especially if she is needing to eat each time she gets up. It could also be (and I suspect this is the likely case) that she is not getting ENOUGH sleep. You don't mention how much she naps during the day, but at this age, she needs roughly 14 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period. Some kids need more, some less, but if she's not getting enough sleep, she won't get tired, she'll actually get more wound up and have more trouble sleeping. Sleep begets sleep, so I'd look into that. A great book on sleep is Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child. A friend of mine had great success after reading that book. My 2 youngest are 22 months apart and share a room so I feel your pain about not wanting one to wake up the other.
