My daughter did the same thing at around 10 months. I was worried about it, too. But, it eventually stoped about a week later. I think it just feels good to them.
Hi moms,
I have a 10 month son who is cutting teeth. He cut in the 2 bottom front a few months ago, and a side tooth on top. Weird, right? Anyway, last weekend I heard him grinding teeth and looked and both top front teeth had broken through. I think the other side tooth on top is cutting through also. All he does now is grind. I have tried to offer teething rings, cold rags and anything else that is safe. I think he likes the noise. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it. I am afraid he might damage the teeth before they come in. Thank you all in advance.

My daughter (now 15 months) did the same thing.....She grew out of it in about a month or 2....I just gave her things to chew on.....What they do is they have these new "toys" in their mouths and they are playing with them....Your son will stop on his own.

My son did the same thing. My dentist said not to worry about it...once all of his teeth are in, he'd quit dong it! He is currently cutting his "I" teeth, and I haven't heard him grinding in a long time. Hang in there with the noise.
I don't think you are going to find anywhere inside for free except maybe the play area in the mall or someones house.
Hi J.,
We found with my granddaughter that she liked chewing on a toothbrush.
Good Luck,

Good Morning J., It's very normal for babies to grind their teeth. As annoying as the sound is, they do stop eventually. In my mind it helps them relieve some of the pressure of cutting new teeth or when they hurt it helps take a little of the hurt away. All of our gr kids did it, sometimes like you I would want to scream or tremble drove me nutty.....lol Not a far drive most days :))
For some of them I could give them vanilla wafers and they chewed those, ice chips worked too. Right now on our last gr child (boy 11 Mo's) He hasn't started very badly, has his bottom 2, top 2, one on the left and the right one is just now showing through. This little guy is the only one who sucks his thumb, the others chewed on or used Binky's, so maybe he won't grind as much. It's a Wait and see if I go bonkers again :))
Good Luck J., it will pass

I know that this is not what you want to hear, but just let him be. My son did the same thing at 10 months, and it only lasted a couple of weeks until he got used to the new teeth. As far as I know, he can't damage the teeth just by grinding, unless it lasts for a long time. If it is still happening when he turns a year, just ask your pediatrician at his well-child check up.
My 8 month old is doing the same thing right now and it has been driving my husband and I crazy. I also was worried about his teeth so I called the doctors office, they told me that it is perfectly normal and I shouldn't worry about it hurting his teeth. What we do it take a binki, he never took one as a baby, and a nipple from his bottles and stick them in the freezer. We give him those to hold onto and chew on. Whether or not it has actually helped him stop grinding I don't know, but he does like to have them to chew on.
Good Luck.
I have a four year old boy and six year old girl that still grind their teeth at night........drives me crazy! I asked the dentist about it and like everyone else has said it is normal. The dentist also told me it looked like I grind my teeth as well. So......I'm not sure we ever out-grow it! The dentist said once their permanent teeth come in and they continue to grind their teeth we could look into mouthguards.
Grinding is a different type of pressure on the teeth and gums.... You have heard many say it is OK and this too shall pass and I agree with them. I know I ground my teeth in my teenage years and found that I was doing it when my wisdome teeth were erupting and the grinding came to relieve the teeth erupting pains.... Of course my dentist had me right in to get them pulled and once they were out my grinding stopped... So I can see a similar thing here, once the new teeth are in, the grinding should stop.
Good Luck making it thru!
My son did this also. He started around 10 mths or so and did it until about 2. He just liked to hear the sound. It made me want to scream! The dentist said not to worry about it that he would probably quit....and he did. I will catch him every great once in awhile doing it for attention. But other than that, the grinding has faded. Thank goodness!

Mine loved to eat popsicles!! Wouldn't take anything else. He is probably old enough with your help to do the freeze pops!! My son also did that when he was younger and the doctor told us that eventually he would grow out of it!! He is now almost five and he still grinds his teeth at night!!
Good Luck.

Our pediadontist told us not to worry about it. He said it was normal and that they will usually grow out of it. I know that sounds simple, but he said it's not their adult teeth so it doesn't matter so much.
Hi J.,
My daughter used to do the samething when she was younger and cutting her front teeth. The 2 things I found to help was Hylands teething tablets (I would give her 4 at a time) and then of course tylenol or motrin, I wouldn't give it to her all the time but just when I heard her grinding her teeth. Hope this helps, W. B.
