HI All,

I took baby to doctor Thurs and they say she has a viral infection with 103 temp. Her mood, appetite and sleep are not terrible. Dr suggested :Tyelenol, TLC and fluids. Any other thoughts/advice? Just curious what to expect as my older daughter never had a fever, although I know they are common. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I would consider an urgent care on Sunday if she isn't feeling better by then, but usually the mood, appetite, and sleep are really good indications of how sick a baby really is so long as the fever comes down to around 101 or so every time you give the tylenol. You can also give motrin at this age which brings fever down better for some children. Oh and feveral is a form of supossitory tylenol available for young children and it works so much quicker than oral forms.

My 2 year old had that twice over the course of 2 months. Out of the blue she spike a temp of 103 and was very lethargic. Like your daughter, otherwise fine. We alternated the Tylenol and Motrin and the fever left within 48 hours. I think just follow what the dr said, but if it doesn't get better in a few days give them a call back. My daughter had never had a high fever til then either. Good luck and just keep doing what your doing : )

I don't know if you're waking the baby to give Tylenol or not, but, unless your dr specifically told you to, I wouldn't. She needs the rest. Our daughter had something like that back in March and I think the sleep helped as much as the meds. Hope she feels better soon!

Poor baby! I hope she is feeling better by now! My daughter had something like this in the spring and it took several days of rotating Motrin and Tylenol to get the fever under control and for her to feel better. Her doctor told us to wake her up every 3-4 hours for the next round of meds. It was rough to do but she fell right back to sleep and it helped. Good luck!
