My 10 month old is super constipated, we gave him Gerber prunes and prune juice which worked pretty well. I read Karo light syrup would work, I gave him half a teaspoon with a 6 ounce bottle once a day for twice a day, but now I'm reading its bad for you!! I'm so confused and worried. Has anyone else tried and gotten good results?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much mommies. Water, prunes, and white grape juice helped a lot. I'm sticking with that and also whole wheat cereal.

you should stick with the juice. just add a tiny bit of apple or prune juice to a couple bottles a day. also try giving him baby oatmeal in the morning. that always helped keep my babies regular in the BM department.

Only had to do it a couple of times, but the glycerine suppositories worked wonderfully for our really tough cases. Also, use some lotion and gently massage his belly in a backward "C" motion. This will help move things along inside. And lots of water!

Good luck!

Hi D., have you recently introduced something new (like say something with dairy)? If so, hold off on it for awhile. I guess Karo syrup CAN work, but there are other not so unhealthy options, you know?
Prune juice is a good one, but so are mashed pears, apples, extra water, too.
If all else fails, maybe just call the peds office to ask for suggestions?

Karo is just sugar so a little can't harm anyone.
A little chocolate candy also can't do much harm and might work well.

I agree with the other mommy's. My son has this problem a lot and I have learned that carrots and pears are a great way to loosen him up. Also, water! Not in substitution of milk just as an added snack.

sometimes prunes and prune juice can constipate more..i used to use a children's suppository on my son..would be in there for a couple seconds and then he'd go..doc said it was fine..he's 5 now..no problems from doing that..just don't make it a habit.

Ive heard the karo syrup is bad too. I would stick to the prune juice, apple or pears. Maybe cut back on cereals.

My daughter frequently gets constipated. My pediatrician told me to use Miralax and it's awesome. I mix it in with her bottle, and it dissolves quickly and has no taste. Works wonders. Good luck!

I wouldn't do Karo. Stick with natural remedies. Prunes are great, and papaya works like a charm with my little ones. Good luck!
