10 Month Old and His Darn Cough!

I have been told that they are too young for allergies at that age and then from another doc to try a little bit of Benadryl or Claritin. Depends on the doc. May want to get a second opinion.

My youngest is a cougher EVERY time she gets sick and it lasts for WEEKS and is always worse while she is sleeping. Vics Baby Chest rub really seems to help. I read something sometime back that said if you rub Vicks on the soles of the feet before bed and cover with socks, it really reduces the cough. Have not tried that, but I know it helps on the chest and back. Will make grease type spots on the PJ's…just a heads up.

Try saline nose drops, you can find all natural drops it should dry that up and help stop the cough.(you can probably make your own) My grandson has to use them and they work great. After 1 year old they can have honey try to find some local honey it helps with allergies it would benefit the whole family. Good Luck hope the poor little guy stops coughing soon.

MIlk and soy products. Also give him lots of movement opportunities to build his right brain. That is what controls the immune system and makes it strong. Let him crawl at least a mile a day! Get him on swings and slides and turn him upside down!

My daughter, who is now 2, also had a nasty cough for quite some time when she was a bit younger and my son who will turn 1 next week gets really congested and a horrible sounding cough when he gets sick. I hate to admit it, but the nebulizer worked on the first try with my daughter but with my son, i had to try different medicine for the nebulizer in order to relieve his cough. For kicks, I also put baby rub on their feet with socks on and also a swiss-made natural oil (can't remember name right now) that i place on a tissue and on their chest under their clothing so they can breathe it in.

Get a new doctor. My daughters get a cough all the time due to allergies. I know its allergies cause of the clear running nose and my own alergies are bad then too. My youngest always coughed in her sleep since we brought her home. At first i thought it was because she was born a month early but after 3 days of vicks humifidier and some zyrtec it was GONE!! My oldest stopped coughing too with same treatment.

Our first peditrition had us try steroids and an inhauler for my oldest and dismissed my allergy concerns and i stupidly went with her opinion instead of my gut. After switching docs i found one that take her time with us, isnt worried about hurrying us out the door, has alot of patience, and just wonderful.
If you use a vicks rub, dont use the adult one but the baby version. Both can cause death in babies if you use too much and dont follow directions. Only on chest and a small amount. Also, i agree with the aggressive cleaning to start with first and then humidifier with allergy meds. I choose Zyrtec over claritin and benadry cause it works for me best and my girls are alot like me.

Awhhh, poor little thing. I would defenitly either tell him you want to try a diffrent medicine, or get a chest xray to rull out something more serious. Is it a bad cough? Or even get a 2nd opinion..You are your childs best advocate :)

My son had the same issue, a persistent cough and clear runny nose from when he was born. His pediatrician at the time said the same thing, allergies don't develop until after age 2. I thought he was just prone to catching colds.

We've since moved and have a new pediatrician, at my son's 15 month appt. the doctor said it was allergies and told me to try Clariton. He thought it was ridiculous what my first ped. said about allergies not developing until after age 2.

All I know is that when he seems stuffy, I give him Clariton and it really helps, he sleeps better because he's not coughing. My guess is your child has allergies, maybe get a second opinion??

Food- what is he eating. Is he nursing-what are you eating?

Also having done the antibiotics now you must make up for that with probiotics, otherwise there is a problem with the immune system, and statistically a great chance of another infection.

Try cleaning all the dust of the room, walls, furniture, curtains, take out carpets, and toys like teddy bears, clean the filter of air conditioning, make the room dust free, put an accarus protector on the matress and pillow.....good luck

Our daughter was like this and yes it is hard to diagnose.

Ended up our daughter had asthma, but it showed itself with coughing most times and then could lead to wheezing.

We live in a very green location so grasses, blooming trees.. , but also dust could bring it on.

10 months is still too young to diagnose asthma.. so keep a record of the symptoms each day.
Ask if ther is any way to see an infant respiratory specialist..
