10 Days Late After a Vasectomy

This is my first time on a forum. Hopefully i get some good answers from some helpful mothers. I am 10 days late, negative test no real symptoms. None that stand out at least. My husband had a vas. a year and half ago. (he never got tested after annoyed) but since I concieved my first while on the pill and the second while having an IUD in I figure we would have already been pregnant by now. We are not trying to have anymore children and tried to take the most responsible route to insure that doesn't happen but my period is now 10 days late and never has been before except with the other kids and the tests were both positive right away with them. Its the 30th of the month so there will be no period this month. the last one was June 20th. I do not have insurance so going to get a blood test is an expensive option I would like to avoid. Maybe I'm just looking for an excuse for the recent aparent weight gain. (even though I have been working out) Also there is no medications that i'm taking, to extreme changes, no excessive exercise, and no stress (until now of course) I'm 28 so it's not a menopause thing. My mother didn't go into that til her late 40s my sister is in her 40s and still no signs of slowing down. So what is the deal am I or not? Any answers would help. thanks!

What can I do next?

I doubt that you are pregnant. Just wait another week and do another test. It'll probably be negative too. I would think that this is just an aberation.

If the OTC tests say no, then probably not.
Planned Parenthood will give you a free blood test.
But late 20's early 30's is right about when other things pop up with your health - the beginning of aging changes.
I was 32 when I was diagnosed with hypothyroid.
I was gaining weight and tired all the time no matter how much sleep I got for several years before I was tested.
I felt so much better once we got the thyroid medication worked out.
In your early to mid 20's and while you're young generally everything works so who needs insurance then?
But right about now you really need to get something lined up because bigger changes are coming to you sooner than you think and you need to be ready for them.

I'm sorry your husband never got tested after the vasectomy. Frustrating for you then, and an added aggravation for you both now.

There are a zillion reasons for late periods. Check with family planning clinics like Planned Parenthood if you really want a low cost pregnancy test beyond the drug store tests. Many have funds for the uninsured, or sliding scale. It's also possible that some bloating from hormonal changes is related to the weight gain, and as you say, you've been working out (and muscle weighs more than fat).

There's nothing you can do right now except weight it out or find the $$. Good luck.

you're probably just late, especially if the pee test was negative.
my husband got a count of ONE for the first two tests after his V. (why won't your husband go get the dang test? that's just stupid!)
his doctor shook his head and said 'it only takes one' and we kept using condoms until that count was zero.
but you're probably just late. as laurie says, our bodies change over time.

Could be stress. Could be just a hormonal thing. I also agree that if its been a year since the vasectomy and it hadn't worked you'd already have gotten pregnant and usually by 10 days late a hpt would show positive if that were the case. If you don't have insurance you could try a free pregnancy clinic or even Planned Parenthood for a free blood test maybe? Sorry I don't have a lot of answers. Good luck!

Unlikely if you've gotten negatives so far with OTC tests. That are just as reliable as the doctor's office, honestly.

You could be late for a million reasons. And weight gain could be due to anything from hormones, to thyroid, to inactivity, etc...

Have your husband go get tested. If he comes up clear, you'll have your answer.

It is normal for our periods to change as we approach 30 so this could be normal, but if it does not come in a few days and the test are still neg then contact your doctor just to be sure.

Welcome to mamapedia!

If you took a test and it was negative - you have no symptoms - I doubt you are pregnant. You can go to planned parenthood - they can give you a blood test.

You may not think you are under stress - but your body is obviously thinking you are under stress....you have gained weight - that doesn't mean you are pregnant - that's a change. that's a stressor on your body.

So go to planned parenthood - get a blood test, get your mind settled. Then fix your diet (not a special diet) and figure out what you are eating that is causing weight gain...heck it might be as simple as WHEN you eat....carb intake (rice, bread, corn, tortilla, etc.).

I don't think you are pregnant. I think it's stress you are putting on your body.

Good luck!
