10 1/2 Month Old Will Not Sleep Without Pacifier

My little girl is nine months and she takes the pacifier when she's falling asleep and has it when we put her down but then when she fall's asleep it falls out and she's fine. Is he okay once he's asleep and it falls out?? I'd give him the paci to fall asleep, but him down and then it'll fall out when he's in a deep sleep. Make it easy on you, wait til he's older to go through it ;0)

Why are you trying to wean him of it this early? most babies wean themselves of it. My son had his till he was a year when I noticed that he went to bed with it but it would end up on the floor before the night was over. I'd let him keep it till he was 2 then if he hasnt given it up by then take him to the store and let him "buy" a stuftie or a toy with it. let him actually give the cashier his paci as payment for the toy. make sure you tell the cashier what your doing so she dosn't give it back to him.
You can also cut the tips off of them so they collapse when he tries to suck on them and he won't want them anymore , cut a little off at a time. up until there's nothing left. ( the cutting one is one you can do now if you are determand to get rid of it now).

My son had his pacifier until he was a year old. He then just gave it up. I also had a friend of mine whose daughter was 2 and still had a pacifier. Finally, they had a little good-bye ceremony for it and it was no longer an issue. I think btwn one and two is a good time to get rid of the pacifier.

I am not sure if you are a Suppernanny watcher but I think that she has a wonderful idea for getting rid of the pacifier. She suggests that you let the paci fairy come to take it way and when he wakes up he will have a gift waiting for him left by the fairy. She places the pacifiers in an evenlope and places it in the mail box and the gift is left in the mailbox. She also explains that the pacifiers are given to other little boys and girls. It seems to work each time that she has done it. However the child has always been older than 10 1/2 months. I am not sure if your son will understand the concept but you can give it a try. You may want to wait until he gets little older.

I didn't use a pacifier with my girls but it is my understanding that most babies wean themselves of it between the ages of 2 and 4. Dental issues with pacifiers come after that age so if that's your concern, don't worry.

I wouldn't sweat it right now. He is still pretty young to be giving up his pacifier. Does he have it during the day too? If he only takes it at night or during naps you are doing a great job already. Just give him some time and he'll let it go. If you are determined you can try sticking a hole in the tip of it and progressively make the hole bigger until he gets no satisfaction from sucking on it. He'll eventually give it up on his own after that.

I think maybe he's just too young. My daughter had hers until almost three years old (only at night) until we finally went cold turkey and she gave it up with very little fuss. I definitely think we should have done something sooner. However, I think maybe 10 1/2 might be too young to use the strageies like the paci fairy or whatever else you come up with... maybe wait until he's a bit older and can understand better?

I wouldn't worry, all my kids gave theirs up on their own around 3, only used at night, it a security issue too, so I wouldn't push it right now. Let him be little as long as possible. Too many kids grow up too quick, treasure each day of him being little. I miss those baby days!
