Hey Moms...
Is there any way that I can possibly change my 1 yr old son's bowel movement schedule? It seems like he always poops at night and it wakes him up! Last night it was around 4am and it bothers him so much that he wakes up. I wonder if it is related to teething or something that he is going so much (day & night)? I have to get up and change him because if I don't he'll eventually go back to sleep, but then he'll have a sore bottom.
He eats on a fairly regular schedule and he is kind of picky with eating so I don't think he is eating too much...
Is there anything I can do? I need to sleep through the night! We have baby #3 coming in 2 months!
Thank you!!!!

We had the same problem so I'm excited to hear what people say.
I tried all sorts of things but nothing seemed to change it... Our problem fixed itself naturally over maybe 2 months so I feel you pain!
Sounds like he's "ready" to start his day early :D. I empathize with you, my daughter went through a period where she would wake up around 4-5 am, wake me up to take her to the potty (refused to poop in her diaper from REALLY early on) and then decided to play in her futon while I would TRY to snooze for a couple of more hours.
If you can find out when his BMs are (like is it at 4 every morning), set an alarm to take him to the potty, tell him it's time to poop and when he's done put him right back to bed and you go to sleep again. Once you get used to it, this actually takes less time than waiting for the poop, changing the diaper and then trying to settle both you and him back to sleep.
Depending on the time of his last meal and when he goes to bed, that may actually be a very good time for him to be emptying his bowels, so try not to stress to much. If you can, have your husband do the 4 am baby care or try to go to bed earlier for a while, so you can catch the extra zzzs you need.
I have no advice, but my son did the same exact thing around the same time/age!! I remember thinking how on Earth will I ever be able to potty train him if his bowel movements continue like this..lol! He'll be two next month and still poops like clock work, but the time has changed to about 7 in the morning!
My kids did that too at a certain age.
Its not permanent.
But you do have to just flow with it.
You can't make him poop or not.
It passes.
You have another baby coming... it is best to let him be.... because an 'eldest' child does not just change and become the picture of perfection just because another baby is coming.
And, have your Hubby HELP too.
THAT is key.
I hope Hubby does help?
If not, I feel tired for you too!
all the best,
Susan
I do understand! Try giving him 2 prunes in the morning every day. That should get the bowels going and changing to the daytime.
Oh dear! Yes, all my kids did that around that age. It didn't last though. I think he probably won't keep doing that. Sorry I'm not much help. Good luck and congratulations on your new little one!!
