1 Yr Old Not Eating Solids

My soon to be 1 yr old dd doesn't really eat solids. She is all about the breast and gets most of her meals with them still. I have tried many, many different types of food from purees (homemade and store bought), food from my own plate, veggies and meat, cheese, avocado, potatoes, etc. She will not take to it with gusto. She may have a few bites, then turns away. Then I think maybe she just isn't hungry, but then I nurse and she chow downs. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

So What Happened?

Thank you all for the advice. It is very nice to know I am not the only mom having these food issues with the little one. Knowing this has helped with frustration levels and given me some perspective. I will continue offering her foods and trust in her knowing her own body. I'm sure one day it will "click" and she'll start to enjoy the wonderful world of solid food.

I have had the same issues with my daughter. I just keep persisting and persisting. At times it is really frustrating. Some days she is better than others. The thing that I have found she likes the best... low sodium chicken noodle soup (carrots, noodles, celery) and peas. My son loves it too. He is a little better with other foods. I feel like they should be eating a lot more but then I hear of others whose son/daughter didn't really take to solids until 13/14 months. I am sure our kids are fine. :)

This is totally normal. My little guy, exclusively breast fed, wasn't interested in real food until 13-14 months. Just nurse first and continue to offer foods but don't worry if she's not into it just yet.

There's nothing wrong with her not liking solids at this point. Eating solids at this age is more about learning to eat and feeling the texture of foods. Babies get most of their nutrition at this age from breastmilk (or formula) so I wouldn't stress about it. Especially since she is so bright and talented ;) She knows what she is doing.

I personally dont have much advice as I have an almost 11month old who rather nurse than eat solid food. She will not eat gerber food unless it is one of the graduates section. She will eat off of my plate but if she had her choice she would nurse. I just keep offering my daughter food and figure she will come around.

Good luck!

RELAX... you are doing great.... your daughter knows her body and what she needs. Oftimes babies are slow to take solids when they are having difficulty digesting them. trust her. she will get there. Continue to let me pick from your plate and breastfeed as she needs. Wonderfully she is getting all the nutrition from you.

My kids breast fed for 2 1/2 years for my first and 3 years for my second. My youngest ate solids before 12 months and breast milk but seemed to like to feed himself. He liked handling the foods and doing it himself. I think all these other responses are true. A group with chapters all over the country called La Leche is a great source of information and also serves as a parenting/mentoring kind of group because it's new moms and experienced moms and a la leche leader getting together. You are doing great! Keep getting together with other moms.

Assuming her growth is fine you have nothing to worry about. She'll eventually eat regular food. Breastmilk is totally sufficient for her right now. Good for her! Consider yourself lucky you aren't carting around a grocery store in your diaper bag yet.l..
