My sweet son recently turned a year old- my question is, does their food intake seem to drop off a bit at this age? He used to drink 3-5 oz every 3 hours plus eat solids twice a day and now he seems content with 3 small meals a day. Sometimes he even refuses breakfast. I am still nursing 3 times a day but want to make sure he gets enough nutrition. Thanks!

Yes, their hunger plummets after a year old. Their major growth time is over until the teenage years. They just don't need those calories. Just wait til he gets to be a toddler and he lives off peanut butter and jelly for a week! :)

Since you are nursing, he is getting what he needs! Relax and enjoy!

i've noticed that all of my first borns 6 years of life were marked with periods of lack of interest in food to an insatiable want for more food, each time she seemed to never get full was when i noticed the growth spurts, its possible your little one is just not "growing" right now, but soon will again.

My 2 1/2 yo son was totally that way. He ate like a champ in his first year, and then within a few months of turning one - by that time he was walking, and his appetite dropped off. To this day he barely eats. I don't know how he manages to grow, and yet he does. He grew one inch in less than two months! I think he's just too busy to want to slow down long enough to eat.

So it's totally within the realm of normal. As long as he is not drastically losing weight or his growth seems stunted, I advise that you just take his lead. If he's hungry, he'll eat.

Good luck!

After 4 children and 6 grandchildren and counting I can say this is normal. Every child is totally unique in every way and appetite is included...I have never seen a child starve of their own volition. I have a 4 yr old grand son who at times has 2 hollow legs and eats constantly and who has also gone without eating much for weeks at a time..He is a big boy and perfectly healthy.. One other note, it is HOT, offer water at least once an hour or just keep a sippy cup handy. Air conditioning is a big dehumidifier as is our Texas heat. Blessings
