1 Year Old Making Gasping Noises in Her Sleep

Between the hours of 4-6am my daughter will sometimes make gasping noises in her sleep. The best way to describe it is it sounds like the gasping noise a baby makes after a good cry. It started a few months ago and would happen only periodically, but it is more common now. We thought it had been resolved by taking measures to warm up her sleeping environment, but now she is doing it again this week every morning. She has been evaluated by her pediatrician who wanted to put her on nasal allergy medication which we didn't do. The MD said her airway looked fine. Otherwise, she is a healthy, happy little girl. I don't think its reflux because it only happens at 4-6am, and it stops as soon as she wakes up. She is not congested, although she did just get over a cold last week. Just wondering if anyone has heard of this or know what it could be. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I've not heard of this. Do you think it could it be sleep apnea though? Just a guess. Hopefully someone will respond who has experienced this before.

One of two things, she is either a snorer, or she has adenoid problems. My son was gasping at 2yrs, peds said he is congested, put him on allergy meds, didn't work, he would stop breathing at intervals, turned out that another ped looked at him, found out his adenoids were enlarged..ended up having to do surgery. Check to see if adenoids are ok.

Have you thought about sleep apnea? That is what is kind of sounds like. It might be a good idea to get her tested for that. It really take a toll on brain function and learning. If that is what it is, the sooner you take tare of it the better.
My sisters little boy was doing this, he got his adenoids out and doesn't do it anymore.
Good luck

You might want to go to an ENT to have her evaluated. I know your daughter is little but if untreated issues with sleep apnea, tonsils and adnoids could also cause bed wetting when they are older. My youngest sister as a baby used to do this and ask she got older she would snore really loud. She would wet the bed until the age of 11 when she got her tonsils removed. Bed wetting stopped immediately.
