1 Year Old Has Odd Face Rash

My one year old has had what I call "flare ups" of small red bumps on her face throughout her life, but for the last month, she has consistently had these flare ups daily. They really seem to come out around 5 pm each day, on her cheeks and back of her neck. They do not bother her at all, she never runs a fever and they never feel hot. The rash seems to calm down with the application of Eucerin, but I'm just wondering what this could be and if it is anything to worry about. I thought it was due to dry winter skin, but with the weather getting nicer and this happening everyday, I'm just wondering what is up. She has a dr. appointment soon and I'm asking then, just wondering if any moms have any tips or ideas? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Does this happen after bath time? or is it something he eats? see if you can pin point what triggers it. Dr's dont always know what it is. You can read about my personal experience with Dr's and rashes on my blog at http://valerielint.blogspot.com/
To much info to write in here. If you find its an allergy to what you are using in the home contact me and i will be more than happy to help you. Or if you just want to become a Chemical Free home

Do you use baby wipes to clean her face after meals? If so switch to sensitive skin if you aren't using them already to see if you see a difference. Sometimes it can be something you are using, creams, wipes, etc. or something she is eating. My son would get really red cheeks after eating something with tomatoes, but never bumps. I am sure it is nothing to worry about and it is probably going to be process of elimination. Try to journal what she is eating daily.

I'm sorry your little one is going through this. My son also has a rash on the top of his mouth. I spoke to his dr about this and she told me to put Desitin on his mouth while he sleeps. It worked for a while, but it always seems to come back. Maybe this will work for your baby girl. Hydrocortizone is also some thing that may work as well. Before you use anything, speak with a derm or ped dr first. Good Luck.

Could be a symptom of high cortisol. That can be measured with a blood test.

A friend of mine's 1 1/2 year old son also has a similar rash and they're attributing it to a milk allergy. He's gotten it off and on since he started on yogurt/cheese and a little formula back at 9-12 months, but ever since he was weaned to milk right after he turned one, the rash has been more of a daily thing, like what you're describing. Since it appears to be an allergic reaction, the cortizone seems to help, but she'll be likely eliminating dairy from his diet shortly to see if that takes care of the issue.

Good luck!

Could be so many things. My oldest daughter had a rash on her face starting around the time she was one, then it spread to her hands and arms. We originally thought food allergy/sensitivity. After eliminating possible culprits to no avail, we then thought environmental trigger since it happened most when she was outside (we thought wood chips from our park). We had her get allergy testing. Found out she was allergic to grass and tree pollen and mold (wood chips and sand at the park have tons of mold). She gets eczema related skin rashes on her exposed skin. Tree pollen has started here in Illinois so that could be a possible culprit (or not). Just thought I would relay the information since it took us years to find out what was irritating her. Hope she feels better soon!

My son and I both get something like you described. Our issue is eczema. Hope whatever it turns out to be is minor and easily treatable.
