1 Year Old Eating Habits

My 1 year old daughter usually eats very well for me. She is in another town with my best friend for a few days, who she knows very well and is 1 of her favorite people and for some reason has not been wanting to eat very well since I have been away from her. I was just wondering if this is a normal thing for kids to go through. It is also the first time she has been away from me for more than 24 hours, so could it be homesickness or mommy withdrawals?

What can I do next?

My daughter was a great eater at that age, too. When she was 15 months old, my husband and I went away for the weekend and she stayed with my in-laws for two days. She doesn't see them as much since they live an hour away, and I recall the same thing happening during that time. She was out of her comfort zone and her whole schedule was thrown off! Don't worry, she'll make up for it when she gets back home with you!
Good luck. :)

Wow I couldn't imagine sending my 1yr old to stay with someone for a few days. They still so need Mommy, I would say it is definitly Homesickness and she Misses her Mommy. She has NO concept that you will be back to get her in a couple of days. All she knows is that you are gone, she's grieving for you.

I know my daughter never eats well when we are visiting someone or if we try to have a picnic at the beach. Anywhere that is not home. She is in a new place with lots of new and different things to check out. She probably isn't interested in eating because there too many more fun things to do! Don't worry she won't starve herself and will eat when she is hungry. After a few days her appetite should pick up again. Hope this helps!

It's normal. It could also be that she isn't used to the types of food your best friend eats.

My daughter doesn't always eat well for others either. Sometimes trying a new food or different prep helped. I just tell myself, she'll eat when she's hungry. Kids aren't able to starve themself to the point of harm.

She's probably so busy taking in the new sights and the novelty of the company, that eating has taken a back seat to excitement. I wouldn't worry about it. A few days worth of diminished eating isn't that big of a deal. Kids go through phases where they are eating above and below "normal" all the time. It shouldn't hurt her any. :)

Very normal- could also be too exciting to eat (too much to see and do).
