Hey Mamas!

i've asked about this before but I don't think I was clear enough so I'm going to try again :)
My youngest daughter just turned 1 on Tuesday and getting her to eat ANYTHING has been a struggle. She has just recently started consistently eating baby food. She likes to eat the kind that comes in the pockets so she can just suck the food out, not to keen on eating from a spoon. She will sometimes eat cottage cheese and yogurt, but the thing is, every time she eats something with a little bit of texture, or something that she has to chew, she chews it (a bunch, for what seems like a long time) and then spits it out. If I catch it with the spoon she wants me to put it back in her mouth. I have tried all kinds of table food, what we eat, things cut up very small, soft food, etc. She doesn't seem to swallow anything. But she will eat the soft part of popcorn! Weird right? I am just not sure what to do to get her to eat! She is up twice a night to nurse and I don't feel like I can stop feeding her in the middle of the night because she must be starving! Any help or suggestions about how to get her to eat would be great!
Thanks!
A.

If she is chewing it, even if she spits some of it out, she has gotten some of the nutrition out of the food that she did not spit out (chewing & saliva breaks down the food making the nutrients more readily available). Still, I'd take her to your pediatrician & get a referral to an occupational therapist for muscular development and swallowing. She'll be fine! Best Wishes!

I would stop the night feeding......if she gets hungry enough, she will eat.........I agree with the two other Mama's .....I would have her checked out. She might have some sort of throat issue...........something that has not been caught......

Get her checked out and make sure there is not some medical issue going on here......

Take care.

Have you tried talking to your pediatrician about this? This sounds like it could be an oral sensory issue. This can be something that is worked on with a feeding clinic and an occupational therapist. There isn't any issue with giving her baby food still if that's all she can handle. It seems as if you feel you have tried all you can but try reaching out to your pediatrician and/or local children's hospital for help.

This is a pretty accurate description of how my 1 year old eats. Our pedi is not concerned. Said she'll put it all together soon. In fact 3 days after we saw him she actually swallowed some food. Talk to your pedi and see if he/she is ok or recommends further evaluation.
I agree about cutting the night feedings. She can eat when it's te to eat.
