I have been looking for a job that includes education but it's really hard since this all happens during the school day. I am trying to find a way to stay home with my 3 girls and still make additional income. Another option was to open a home daycare because it allows me to work with kids. I am in the process of getting my daycare license. In the meantime I am looking for some extra money. I also love to cook. I can make some good spring rolls and fried egg rolls. Plus, I can make some good chow mein and fried rice. I was thinking about making some party platters if people are interested. My husband can build me a website to advertise. Would you like this idea for parties? Please let me know because I am really excited about getting it started.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I already do slim down our budget and I do cook at home all the time. I buy on sale and bulk items to save on groceries. We just want to save for our kids' college and looking to the future for our family. Plus, we always want extra money for emergencies. Actually I worked on the numbers and getting a license and all that will not be enough of a commitment for me to get this side business going or started. My kids are actually well-behaved. They are good eaters and nappers. My week is devoted to them because we have activities going on that won't allow me to do anything besides caring and supervising for them. I was planning to do this part-time during the weekend when my husband is home. My husband was going to do the website for me. Cooking is easy for me. However, I did think about all the advice you ladies gave and I agree. It will be more for me to upkeep and start for something part time. I think that I will go towards the day care route and wait for my license to go through because I can handle taking in a couple of kids to come and join us in our activities. Plus, I am already in the process of getting licensed in home daycare and I have a teaching background. I always keep up with the trends bc I am always interested in productive activities to share with my toddlers. Thanks again for your advice.

Hey N.,

My name is D. and I have a 11 month old baby. I completely understand where you are at. After my son was born I went back to work for a short time and soon realized my whole check was going to let someone else care fpr my child and all the while my husband and I were in the same position financially that we would of been had I just stayed home. So naturally I came home. At first I had no idea what to do. I did find a very successful company that allows me to know work from own and still own my own business. I own my own product brokerage company and work off the internet. I schedule my own hours and still get to spend time with my son and of course the Lovely house duties..:) I feel like God has blessed me with a wonderful opportunity that I would love to share with other stay-at-home Mommies. So if you would like more info let me know. My email is ____@____.com... Feel free to email me anytime I would love to show how you could bring some more money into the house hold and help out your Hubby. Well God bless! Thanks

do be careful about licenses and kitchen compliance. If anyone ever gets sick from your cooking you could really lose everything. Do your research and think carefully about your liability. There are very strict rules about food safety, kitchen requirements, etc.

Hi Nikki,
Wow, you must be so busy with a 2yo and practically new infant! Is there any way you might just comb your budget really intensley to find some extra cash? Creating a web sight, party paltters, wow, that would be alot of work. I think you might also need a license for food operations. When I had an infant I could barely get a shower and dress decent much less start a bussiness. This time will go so quickly, try to enjoy it, they are so precious and cute right now. Cook for your family, that is a great way to save money! Just stay home and go to the park and have picnics!

I would buy something like that for sure! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Would that include sweet and sour and hot mustard sauce? Just curious. Let me know prices and options, and if you get it up and running by next month. It's my 30th birthday and I'd love to keep that option open.

Unfortunately something like this is a huge luxury in these economic times. I think most would agree it is a great idea but we can get the platters together ourselves for half the price.
In order for you to make money you would need to charge above what the cost of buying and prepping it and right now that is a luxury for most of us. Not to rain on your parade but the economy for something like this right now might not be suitable.

I do child care at my home, you will not have much free time to get platters of food together promise.
If you are getting your license I would just be patient with that. You will be really focused and busy with other people's children in your home and having to keep close tabs on them.
You being experienced in education you will do great at home daycare and it is a great way for your kids to learn all about peer structure and playing with others!
Good luck
