The best one that I found was a box of scented disposable bags from the dollar store and my kitchen trash can! Don't let them pile up... just get them on out of there.
I recently gave away my Diaper Champ because it stunk to high heaven. I replaced it with a Diaper Genie II. It works great but the liner refills are expensive. Does anyone here have a better solution?
Thanks,
A.
Thanks everyone for your responses. I have decided to keep my Diaper Genie II for the stinky diapers and use a push pedal garbage can for wet ones.

Take a disposable tupperware container (glad, rubbermaid, chinese takeout :-)) and poke a few holes in the lid. Put a few pieces of charcoal, like the kind you use in a grill. Place it in the bottom of any diaper container you use. Change it about one a month and that will help with the smell.
Hi Allison,
I had a diaper pail, but it always seemed to smell bad before it got full. I got the scented diaper disposal bags for the dollar store or from Babies R Us (I think Toys R Us carries them, too) and threw them in the regular trash. Grocery store bags would probably work, too. It gets emptied so often, it never created a problem.
Good luck!!
I have the Diaper Genie II and I love it but you are right, the refills are expensive. I know that this sounds non-technical but I have stopped using the diaper genie and now just use the grocery bags that I can just tie up and thow them in the garbage. There is no smell and very inexpensive. I collect them as I bring home groceries.

I use have the diaper genie too and like using it. The liners are a little expensive, but its worth it to keep that smell out the room. But after reading the other posts, I may have to try the grocery bag method!
i hated my diaper genie, they all seemed to promise things they couldn't prove. what i foulnd worked the best for our family was the plastic grocery/wal-mart (etc) bags. after every diaper change i tied them up in one of them......no smell, no fuss and they were basically FREE!!!!! they served the same purpose, and we always had tons of them!
We also just use plastic grocery bags. Bag and then tie them up. You already have them from shopping so no extra money spent and it works.
Here is a cheesy way to save time and money. We use empty walmart or other plastic bags. it seals up the diaper and smell and we have never had a problem. you could also get the very small scented trash bags. Those work well too.
I have a cheap $16 diaper pail and use regular scented kitchen bags in it. For the poopy ones, I too put them in the plastic grocery bag, along with the wipes, and put it in the garbage outside. When my son was a newborn he was breast fed and unless it was really bad, I just tossed the poopy ones in the diaper pail because they don't stink too bad until they start solids really. But once they're having regular solid food bowel movements, in my opinion there ain't no magic diaper pail to stop that smell! Plus, the specially designed bags are way too expensive to be worth it.
I too have a Diaper Genie and forgot what a pain in the butt they are when I had one with my daughter too!!! I stopped putting the poopy ones in there, only the pee ones. I take the poopy ones and put them in a walmart like bag, twist it around tight and then fold the rest of the bag around the diaper (kinda turning it inside out) and then tie it off at the handles. Seems to keep the smell in enough to toss them in the kitchen trash or I'll toss them in the big trash can. I have a friend that has the Diaper Champ and she uses the stick-up air freshners in it. She said it doesn't totally kill the smell but it helps.
I'm about to ditch the whole diaper pail myself. My son is in size 4 diapers and it seems like I'm forever empting the thing and the refills are so expensive!!!
Good luck to ya!!

I found this amazing website for making ur own home made air freshener's with stuff around the house and it saves me from having to go to the store for diaper pail,or re-fills for a once used diaper genie or heck even having to stock on 10 million walmart bag's..lol the web site is called
Thriftyfun.com It's awesome and I love all their recipes I have been using them for about 2 years now and they work like a charm ,except me and my husband think that vanilla and cinnamon are nauseating ..but I do love the smell of apples and pumpkin.. my next batch I will be expermienting with banana lol ......Good luck Ladies !
The diaper genie IS the BEST,but at $7-$8 bucks a pop for refills,I ,just like the other ladies, started using the NUMEROUS plastic bags I get from the grocery store, and if its a pooper, run it straight out to the super can!!Hope this helps,R.
I am a Mom of 6. I have always used the plastic garbage bags from the store. You put the diaper in the bag and twist it tightly at the bottom, I then fold the bag back over the diaper and then tie it. This works great and it does not cost anything. Hopefully the explination is clear. Let me know. Have a great day. :0)
I would try ebay to get the refills.
We just have a very small diaper pail and we use the plastic grocery bags as liners. I tie an extra bag around poopy diapers and just toss in wet ones. Because the pail is small, it fills up before it has a chance to get really bad.
Also, if you know your little boy goes #2 at about the same time each day, you can set him on the toilet at that time and avoid messy diapers altogether.
We Use the little scented bags as well. You can buy a box of 200 for about $7.00 at toys r us. I've found that they work as long as you take out the trash within about 24 hours. After that I start to notice a little stink. Grocery bags work good too, but I find that they don't keep the stink in as well, and so often they are torn and useless.
The best pail in my opinion is no pail. I know it's not feasible for everyone, but it worked for me. We had the Diaper Champ with our first baby- worked great, no problems. But it is made of plastic and it did start taking on odors. We threw it out with the intention of getting another one, but never did. We just tied the diapers up in a plastic grocery bag and took it straight to the garbage outside. When you think about it, why would you want dirty and wet diapers sitting around your house, even if they are in a pail? Anyway, as I said, it's not feasible for everyone, but it was the best "system" for us.
Hey A.,
I am a mother of two and I have found the best thing for me is to buy the pint size store brand sandwich zip locke bags. They seal so tight that once it's sealed the smell is gone. I don't even walk them out to the outside garbage can. I just throw them away in the kitchen trash which we throw out every night. I have never had a problem with it being stinky and it's much cheaper and less clutter than the diaper things.
Hope this helps, D.
Well I have an old fashio diaper pail, infortunately I don't know the brand name for it. Diaper Genie's are good but, the refills are expensive(I have both). I would suggest investing in an old fashion diaper pail that does not need lining, if you are worring about the cost.
Ever try just using those plastic grocery bags?? put the dirty diaper in the bag, with the wipes, etc, and tie a knot in it and toss it in the garbage. don't have to fool with it twice and don't have to waste your money on some 'Genie'!!!!
Good luck!
