I have an 18 year old daughter who has been asked to care for a family's three children ages 12, 9 and 6. She will stay with them on occasional evenings but is also going to be staying with them two days a week in the summer from 8 am until 6 pm. What type of rate should she be getting for babysitting with 3 children? Would a daytime rate be different than an occassional evening rate per hour? Thank you for your advice. She hasn't really been involved in a lot of babysitting during her teen years so we have no idea what is fair these days. Please do not send a reply requesting her services for babysitting; this is not my reason for posting this question on Mammasource.

I have three children of my own and the babysitter that we had been using up until recently charged $3/hr/child. However, she discounted the third child so that it was a total of $6/hr. She also fed them any meals in which they were there for.
I live in Uniontown, and have two daughters, ages 7 and 4. I pay my babysitters approximately $5/hr for an hourly rate. I would expect a little more than that for 3 children...perhaps $7/hr. A daily rate will definitely be different. Most daycares in the area charge $25 - $30/day per child. Remember that this rate includes certified teachers, a structured program, meals & snacks, and overhead expenses. So, I'm trying to say that your daughter can probably expect less than that...perhaps closer to $15 - $20/day per child.
I not quite sure what the going rate for babysitting, but i send my children (4yrs & 18mo ) to a home daycare and she charges me $25/day per child, for about those same hours. and that does include brkfast and lunch plus snacks. Those children are older but I would pay atleast 50-75/day if I was in a similar position.

I would say $25.00 a day during week and $6.50- $7.00 an hour in the evening. That is what I would charge ... Take Care!
