We are going to San Francisco/Napa Valley for a 3 day weekend. We have been told to take the Alcatrez Night Tour. We also thought about doing a city tour. Does anyone have any suggestions of places we should definitely see? Any good restaurant suggestions? Thanks!

What can I do next?

What a great trip. We did this last year. I of course was pregnant and couldn't enjoy Napa like I wanted to! Napa is actually something that probably takes more than 1 day, but definitely go to Domaine Chandon and take the tour while you are there. I am sure there are a TON of wineries that are great, but I really enjoyed this one.

When in San Fran . . .Scoma's on Fisherman's Wharf (pier 47) is excellent if you want great seafood. As for the alcatraz tour . . .I have heard great things about the night tour. We couldn't get in, but we did hear that you can order your tickets online before you go if you know what night you want. I would actually suggest that. If you do a google search for "alcatraz night tour" there are several sights that offer them. Not sure which ones are the best though. We did get into the day tour and that was great, so if you can't get into the night tour, the day one is good too.

We did the cable car tour. Walking around Ghirardelli chocolate factory is right there near the wharf . . .

There really is so much to do that you really can't go wrong.
have fun.

We went there with my husband's company, so they had planned tours for us. Alcatraz was neat. The one couple went on their own and rented a little guided cart (possibly the go cart that the other mother suggested). They said it was worth every penny, and they got to see most of the city on their own that way. We went to fisherman's wharf, and just walked around watching the street vendors. We also went to Ghiradelli square for some ice cream.

Its been about 20years since I've been there but I'm sure is more amazing than ever

The Go Cars are really fun http://www.gocartours.com/.

Skip the pier, just a bunch of places to spend your money on souvenirs.
Golden Gate park and the Presido were great too.

Hi S.-
I used to live in SF and loved the North Beach area. It's the neighborhood with all the Italian restaurants and bakeries. My favorite was Rose Pistola. They do Ligurian cuisine, northern Italian, and have live jazz on the weekend at night. It's a little expensive, but the food is authentic and the wine list is generous.
On the less expensive side is Mona Lisa Ristorante. I used to work there! It's noisey, and crowed, and fun! I still have good friends who work there and I visit every time I'm back in SF. It's very much like the busy ristorante in Florence, Italy. (I used to live there, too!).
Or for a sandwich try Molinari's. It's right next to Mona Lisa.
Enjoy!
