buy the pad covers that they have in hospitals and just get rid of them each morning
How to get the bad smell ( urine) out of almost brand new materace ( can't afford to replace it every year!). Hoping that there will be no more "accidents" with my "big"kids I replaced the "old" matterace ( it was not old at all- just "worned out")with a new one. Maybe too soon...

Hi A.-
You should put a shower curtain liner down over the mattress or under the sheets in case there is an accident, it won't go through to the mattress.
As far as the smell of urine, you should look online and see what works.
Hope this helps,
K.
Try going to the pet store and getting a product used for pet urine and apply it directly to the mattress. This worked for me. GL!
How big is your matress? I am moving and have a split queen that you can have. It is clean and in good condition. I don't know what will remove that odor if it has been saturated in the fibers. contact me at ____@____.com
Put baking soda directly on the mattress. If your child has an accident, pull all bedding off, blot area to get excess urine off, and then sprinkle baking soda on spot. Make sure spot is covered completely with a thin layer of the soda. Good luck.
Hi A., Not sure you can get the smell out. Maybe a mixture of non toxic soap amd some baking soda to eliminate odor. If you can, place out in the sunlight. A rubber backed mattress pad would have kept the urine off the mattress in the first place. You can only try. Grandma Mary
There's a product called anti icky poo - You can get it online or in pet store or vacuum cleaner stores. There are various varieties including one at babies r us with a bright pink label. Anyway - It has bacteria-eating enzymes and will get rid of all things disgusting; pet and people urine, barf, spilled milk under the backseat of your car three weeks ago, anything.
Great stuff! Just look at the ingredients for enzymes that eat bacteria.
Try 20 Mule Team Borax. The directions are on the box. You buy it in the laundry section of any grocery store and it's cheap too. It has many other uses too, read the box.
I agree with everyone else you need to get a waterproof matress cover to prevent future accidents. Also, does this child wear the night time pull-ups? It's better than waking up soaking wet.
Good Luck!
I would definitely ge tthe waterproof mattress cover. I did this with my daughter's bed and boy oh boy am I glad I did!
Also - to get the smell out of a mattress is very hard since it is so thick, you will probably never really get to the source of the odro but you can try something I use. It's called S.O.S. It gets out any organic stain or odor (I know from experience that it works to get pee stains out of the carpet) so I am sure it can only help the mattress . . you can get it thru www.marketamerica.com
There is a "As seen on TV" product called Urine B Gone (I think) our KIngston, NY WalMart sells it up near the front of the store they have a whole section of "TV" Products. I have never used it but it may be worth a try! A.
I don't know how to get the smell out, but I highly recommend you buy a waterproof mattress pad, so you don't have to worry about future problems.
ODORMUTE Works great for kids and Newfiw puppies:)!
You could try baking soda and water and let it air dry (vacuum dry baking soda if needed). Or maybe a carpet cleaner?. I have a waterproof mattress cover on the crib and will be getting one for the bed we are getting for our toddler. Also, if you do get a new mattress some places offer a silicone stain barrier for an extra fee (we have this on our bed). If you have a regular bed wetter then you can always get pull ups or Goodnights (the bigger kid version).
buy urine gone. It works wonders!!! They sell it in cvs as well as walmart. I had a mouse problem in my basement (they were behind a workbench peeing like mad & my basement reaked) the urine gone got rid of the stench so i tried it on my daughters mattress when her diaper leaked it works !!!!!! I also use in in my bathroom when my son misses the toilet.
Not sure how to get the smell out, but to prevent future "smells" you can purchase a plastic liner that cover the mattress completely. Target sells twin size for less than $10.
there's a as seen on tv product that you can look for on the internet called URINE BE GONE. Try it on your mattress!! Good Luck!!!
A., you should get the plastic thing to go over the whole mattress and it protects it from anything. I still have it for the my oldest and planning on getting another one for my second, but for now, he has the thick long cloth that covers the whole mattess. It protects it. I know from my experience this company I work for EcoQuest has this machine, that is guarantees (as I said, it helps with everything, including smoke we had in our house from the stove on fire and took the whole smoke and smell right out of our apartment) to take that smell out by placng it on there and I have done that on the carpet because the cat had pooped and peed on that one spot and it took out the smell and it sanitized the area too. So, we can have you evaluate it for a week and see what it does for you and if you don't like it and it didn't do anything you give it back. If you like it, you can get one and I'll help you purchase you and they have one for the bathroom too now....or place it hear the cat litter....just let me know if you're interesting evaluating and see what it does for you....I'll pray that Jesus will give you the Wisdom when you ask for it.
Not sure what to do with a smelly one but if there are any additional children on the horizon, you can get a plastic cover to leave on the mattress to avoid ruining it
A.,
All the moms have great ideas. I'd like to add that if you have a steamer, you can also steam the mattress to remove odors. It also kills any lingering bacteria. For added protection going forward, use the Good Nights overnight underpants and the plastic mattress cover. Good luck.
good mornong A.... go to walmart in the pet section and get the product "out" it is cheaper then the other pet products for pee, about six dollars, it works on dog pee and kid pee. the enzymes distroy the smell. all you have to do is pat the area and get as much pee up as you can, then spray the spray on the area, if it has soaked in to the mattress alot, keep spraying, rub it in and let it dry, might take a day or so if you spray it alot... but them smell will be gone. just had to do it yesterday, baby fell asleep on the chair and i forgot that she had underwear on(potty training) and she peed ALOT.. so i got my spray out and it worked great. it also workes on vomit smell (fyi) have a good week and good luck
If this is a new (within a week)mess, try using just a little bit of dish soap on a rag or sponge and scrub the whole area. Next rince the soap off, and spray the mattress with Lysol disinfectant spray. When it dries, it should smell better. I would also pick up a cheap vinyl zippered mattress cover (they are only about $5.00 at Wal-Mart), and put that over the mattress. If it is uncomfortable, put a cheap mattress pad over the top, and you won't get urine in the mattress ever again. My mom had ten children and wouldn't buy an new mattress without covering it first. She said it wasn't worth it.
I hope this helps,
C. Thomson
