I always like Motherhood Maternity. I know there is one in Stonewood Mall in Downey, and I think there is one in either Lakewood or Cerritos Mall. Good selection of bras and not too expensive.
Anybody know a good shop anywhere in Lakewood/Long Beach area or even all of Los Angeles/Orange County to buy good Maternity underware & bras? Somewhere where there's a lot of choices? I can't seem to find a shop (besides on line) that has much of anything to choose from.

First...CONGRATULATIONS! I'm also an older first-time mom and totally understand the support issue. LOL! The only place that I was able to find bras that fit was The Pump Station. It's in Santa Monica and worth the trip. Huge selection of styles and sizes, plus great staff. They have a room with an entire wall of nursing bras. They're located on Wilshire Blvd. and was started by two female doctors to support breastfeeding. They have really knowledgeable people and a lot of great stuff beyond bras. You can find it online, just google it, or call information. While I was pregnant, I used regular bras just bought a larger band size (which lasted me for most of my first and second trimesters) or you can use a strap extender. By the time I hit the 3rd trimester, I was using sports bras that I bought from Target. Good luck!
Sounds funny but check the local hopitals. I delivered at Hoag and they have a little shop in one of their Bldgs. You have to make an appointment but it was the most comfortable bra's I found.
Good luck
Not sure what your price range is, someone else mentioned a bra that was $70! Yikes! In this economy I don't know about you but that is some serious cash to hold up the girlies! Someone else mentioned the tanks at Target. I love these tanks! I have 3 in each color. They only come in black, white and grey. They are comfortable and when nursing they are easy to snap open and close with one hand. And, at $16 each, I think they are in most anyones budget. They have other nursing bras but I have only bought the tanks and love them. I hear Sears is coming out with a new line of nursing bras, both of us will have to check it out. Oh, and most brands say to purchase your pre-pregnancy size......no! Try it on! I was usually a 34B and by the end of my pregnancy I was a 36 DD! Everyone is different, TRY IT ON!
Good luck!
Every pregnancy I did something different. At motherhood they have bra expanders. And Japanese weekend had my favorite pregnancy undies. I never found a place that had lots of undie choices. BUT, St Judes post pregnancy spot had TONS or nursing bras to choose from. LA has got to have something. If you can't find it in LA, then you aren't going to find it anywhere.
I think there is a Motherhood store in the Cerritos Mall. They are inexpensive and can give you lots of advice. Also, they carry bra extenders so that you can use your current bras for as long as possible.
Olga makes great nursing bras but they are pricy. A friend gifted me with one and I bought the other. Even if you could afford one it would be worth it. These I bought at Nordstrom.
I love, love, loved my Bella Materna bras! I have been nursing my 2nd boy for almost 3 years now and the bras still look new. With my first I tried Bravado which was nice, but stretched out terribly and then some bras from Target and Motherhood. Those bras were cheaper and cheaper in quality! They have not stood up to my Bella Materna bras. They run about $54. La Leche League also makes some wonderful and inexpensive bras.
I have a store in Fullerton and get a lot of customers from Long beach as it is not that far. Check out our site (the bras are not on there) at www.bellysprout.com. You can send me a message with any questions. Since I have limited selection on bras, there is another place up the way from me by St. Jude hospital I can refer you to. We also have great baby carriers and specialize in cloth diapers. It's a fun place!
W., please, please please don't buy your bras at Motherhood, they are total hunks of junk. Treat your boobs nice and go to Nordstroms and ask one of the women in the lingerie section for nursing bras, they have them in the back (not on the floor). They will run you about $70 each, but let me tell you...you will notice a HUGE difference in how you look and how your breasts hold up during pregnancy and beyond. Also, a really good supportive bra is important for your back during pregnancy, and the ones at nordstrom are not only very supportive, they are really pretty.
Take care of yourself, and pamper yourself with some nice undies while you are pregnant. Also, check out www.mylacys.com for great underwear while pregnant. They have a special padded area in the crotch that is ideal towards the end of the pregnancy when you might experience some stress incontinence. They are really well made and look awesome on.
I got all my panties at Motherhood maternity and they have good nursing bras and tanks at Target.
Hi W.,
There is an awesome shop in Monrovia called Creative Woman. Here is their website http://home.flash.net/~bras/
They will take you into a dressing room, CORRECTLY measure you & bring the type of bras you are looking for in your correct size. I have a very small band size but larger cup (32DD). Even when pregnant or nursing my band does not go beyond 36 but the cup goes to G! So you could say I need support as well! It is nearly impossible to find a bra in those sizes at Target or even Nordstroms.
I didn't want to make the drive to Monrovia one time & went to Nordstroms. The bra "expert" there measured me wrong & I ended up with a bra that hurt my shoulders because the band was not tight enough (she insisted I was a 38D). Also, they only had 1 choice for a nursing bra.
So I've learned it's worth the drive to go to Creative Woman. I got my bra there for my wedding dress, bra size swimwear, and pregnancy & nursing wear. Also, if you take care of a good bra & hand wash them, they will last a very, very long time. They can teach you about that at Creative Woman. Congrats on your pregnancy & take care!
