I'm thinking of having a professional resume writer review and upgrade my resume - but I"ve never done it before. Does anyone have any experience and can tell if they thought it was worth the money?

Thanks

What can I do next?

I teach a business class, and there are some great resources out there with sample cover letters and sample resumes. You can use their wording and sentence structure and just insert your experience. Go to the library if you cant find something online. There are tons of books on resumes and cover letters. The other thing to keep in mind is that a lot of employers don't even use resumes anymore because they just have you fill out an application online. What you need to do is follow up with a phone call or go in person and hand them your resume.

I spent $150 having someone write my resume for me after it was out of date. I was too busy to update/polish it and I wanted it to look different than the standard fare. I was so pleased with the results and at every interview I went on I actually got compliments on my resume. I went back and forth a few times with the writing company to get it just right but I thought it was well worth the money. I received a text only format too which I could paste with online applications if needed. If you have some extra money, I think it would be well spent on this in my experience. Good luck.

I am a professional recruiter. Do not use these services. They never know as much about you as you do, resumes are totally subjective anyway, and if you aren't getting calls from your resume, my #1 advice is to change it.

My wife used one last year and NO, it wasn't any better than what she had already. It was a local guy in Dallas, so no worries with you choosing the same guy, lol. Not saying this is the case every time.
I would guess a mom or two on here would help you out!

My husband used one a couple of years ago, and he got a ton of calls because his resume was so good. He provided the information and the resume service laid it out in an attractive way. It cost about $200, but he kept in constant contact with the actual writer until he was satisfied. Some of the writers know what buzz words to use for different industries so it can be helpful. I was so impressed with his most recent resume, that I am using his format to update mine right now! If you are really in need of a new job, and you have gaps in your experience, etc. it would be worth it. If you just want to "update" your resume, it might not be worth it.
