Ditto on the half vinegar and half water, I add a couple of tablespoons of salt too. It works for almost everything, and I don't have to worry about it being toxic for my 16 month old daughter.

I would recommend a solution of half vinegar and half water. In our old home which had berber carpet, we were using the pet stain removers and didn't realize it was bleaching our carpets until we had them cleaned professionally. All of a sudden, there were huge bleached out spots in the carpet. The carpet cleaners told us to only use vinegar and water from now on. It works really well on pet stains, but I haven't had to use it for kids yet. I would assume it would work the same.

Best of luck!

All these ideas are great. ONe other thought is that it is helpful to potty train in the winter, when kids are wearing long pants. I found with my two boys that if they were in pants, especially ones like sweats with elastic around the ankles, MOST of the urine got on the clothes instead of the floor. In shorts, it goes right out the leg and makes a much bigger mess. I tried the "let them go naked" method for about 20 minutes and about had a heart attack when my son peed on the kitchen cabinets.

I also put my extra crib waterproof mattress covers over my couch cushions and ottoman, and then put pretty throws over them. You couldn't tell they were there, but it made me feel so much better that they could sit on the couch and I didn't have to worry about urine stains on my furniture.

Pet stains and people stains are similar. I would try one of the products you can get at the grocery store for pets.

There is an excellect product made by BioKleen (one place you can get it is at Whole Foods) called Bac-Out, stain and odor remover. It is about $8 for an, I'm guessing 32 oz container, and it is worth every penny! We have used this alot for any urine issues we have come across with kids and pets. It's an excellent product, and is not as harmful (it may be non-toxic, but I am not sure) as others out there! Be sure to follow instructions on container...

I think you should start out potty yraining with pull ups (made by pampers)then you won't have the "urine" problem. When she is going on a regular basis then switch to big girl panties. Also baking soda is good for absurbing any accidents ( let dry and vac )no oder, no stain.
Good luck

Be careful if you have a wool carpet. Almost anything that eats through the urine will also discolor your carpet. (Especially oxy-clean, resolve or the bissel products). If you have wool carpets, try to stick with a combo of Ivory dish soap and water with a hand-held bissel, or soda water or hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle.

Or, just try to pull up any expensive carpets until you are done with this. We've decided that when our girls are about 10, we will be replacing every carpet in the house.

There is a solution at walmart in the baby section I cant remeber what it is called but it works great and is nontoxic. Also another hint I got that worked well for me was to put a pull up on over the panties.they still feel the wettness but u dont have the mess. Also gerber makes panties that are a lot thicker and less mess there to.Good luck

Borax is awesome and cheap. Blot up as much excess urine as you can, then cover the area w/ Borax and allow it to set-then vacuum. Works great on bedding as well and doesn't make the areas wetter like other methods may.

(My DD is 8 and has DS-did we "chat" before? :)

OUT! Stain and Odor remover. It can be found in the pet or carpet sections of most stores. It is a chemical enzime that eats bodily fluids such as urine, blood, vomit. It works well for many types of accidents.

My husband I do carpet cleaning professionally and deal with urine stains/spots all the time! If you are looking for a quick fix you can use hydrogen peroxide or vinegar and water (as already suggested). Natures Miracle (also suggested) is excellent. It is made for pets but works great for urine because it has enzymes in it that break up the protein in the urine and will take care of the spot as well as the smell. You can find it at Walmart.

Urine is sterile, so clean up is just like any other spill- then I would spray with Febreeze to get rid of the uric acid smell. Also- with my son, I followed all the books, bought the little toilet targets, withheld liquids after 7 p.m.- all the stuff, and it took forever to potty train him. With my daughter (second child) I simply bought some pretty panties with sparkley Disney Characters on them and placed them in her drawer. I showed them to her and said, "When you are ready to wear big girl panties, they are right here." The next day, she was totally trained.

Hi A.,

My name is C.. I live in Watauga. I have a four year old son and a almost 2 year old son. I'm not positive the best way to clean up urine, but I have one of those small bissels. It's a small vacuum that uses water and cleaning solution to suck out the stain and smell. we have had ours for 5 years now and it works great. it's a little more than just trying to wipe up the stain, but it will get it up and the smell. It has done miracles on my floor especially with two boys. They carry it at Target and they are about 60 dollars or so.

Also, I stay at home with my boys and always looking for support and someone to hang out with. I get very tired of just staying at home by myself and doing laundry and cleaning the toliets. It gets pretty old after a while. My husband is gone a lot with work. So if you are interested let me know. hope you are having a good day!

I have not yet come to this crossroad, as my daughter is not quite one. However, a friend of mine uses the carpet cleaner that you use for puppies. I think that there is something in it that combats the slight ammonia smell that regular carpet cleaners dont have. Also, I own a Bissel Little Green Steam Machine. Its great for small stains. It got coffee out of my carpet. I would think that it would work well for pee too!!
Hope this helps!!!
