Pillow.... or Not??

at what age is it safe to allow your child to start using a pillow. My three boys got their first pillow when they went to their big boy bed at around age 2. it never seemed to bother them though to sleep in the crib without one. my little girl (almost 16 months) seems to want a pillow... she will fuss and squirm but if i put her in the big bed she curls up on the pillow and settles in perfect. i think she is more comfortable with one but i'm not sure if its safe to give her one in her crib??

What can I do next?

I think it is fine. My son slept with a pillow and so does my nephew at that age. they use very flat pretty light pillows. Nothing heavy.

We gave our kids a toddler sized pillow- like the size of an airline pillow - around 17 mos. We switched them to a regular pillow around 2.5 years.

I think I bought little pillows for mine once they about 1 & 1/2 I know I ended up putting at least 1 in a crib, You have to be careful that she won't be able to bunch it up and climb out of the crib! But otherwise i think its pretty safe for her to have one!

I think 16 mo. is perfectly safe. She can't get trapped under it or anything. You could always get a pillow meant for a little kid- like this one:

Or, my kids love their pillow pets- my DD (3) and my 2 DS's sleep with them every night. You could try that too.

I think she is fine. My daughter is two and half and has never had a pillow. Mainly because my husband is a chiropractor and my daughter sleeps on her stomach and he is afraid it will hurt her neck. But if she seems more comfortable with it, then go for it.

I gave mine pillows once they were no longer squirming all over the place. I think that was about 14 months old? I did buy smaller toddler sized pillows to start out with, but both of my kids quickly took larger pillows from another bed and adopted those.

I think I recall that our pediatrician said it was ok at 18 months.

We gave our daughter a small pillow (PBK) when she was a just over a year... She is 2 1/2 and still uses it. We are converting her crib to the toddler stage and I think we will switch her to a euro square size or just a regular pillow.

Yes, it should be ok. I have a 18 month old daughter, and she has been using a pillow since about 14 months. I constantly monitor her sleep positioning with the pillow. Now as far as a crib, I am not sure. I haven't used one. My kids have little toddler beds because they are quite tall. Maybe consider a little toddler bed?
