Hello Ladies. I have been diagnosed with PCOS and have been going through rounds of Clomid, along w/Metformin, to try to get pregnant. I went in today for an ultrasound... the doc didnt want to put me on another round of Clomid if i had redisual cysts. I did.... two pretty big ones, one on each ovary. They are putting me on the birth control pill to "reset" my ovaries. This is the second time I have had to do this. Does this actually help? I feel like I am backtracking doing this. Also, is it possible to get pregnant w/cysts????

What can I do next?

I had some of the same issues with clomid. I switched to letrolzol/femera (*sp?). It does the same as clomid but uses different hormones (if I remember correctly) It worked twice for me and the first time it only took one month.

I know a lot of women that have PCOS have issues with clomid.

Yes...it is possible to get pregnant with cysts. I have a one year old son to prove that. We did extensive fertility treatments to get pregnant with our son and ended up conceiving on a "break" month because of residual cysts. I was on injectible drugs, but cysts are cysts so pretty much the same situation. I did do BCP once to get rid of the cysts and while that worked, it also works to just get off the clomid and let your body rest. I had that second prescription for BCP in my hand and something nagged at me not to fill it. I am so happy I did because along came our son.

Also, I am 6 months pregnant right now. I have PCOS and did metformin and clomid to get pregnant this time around. So, good luck!! Its a very personal decision so hope this info helped!

I know it is possible to get pregnant with cycts, I have two boys to prove it! :-) With my first son we tried for almost 2 years to get pregnant, but with my second the pill helped. The reason, I was on the pill for a period of time, started to actually get my period and then went off them and was pregnant within 3 months. Because of the pill cycle I knew exactly which days to have sex to get pregnant. I also have a friend with PCOS that spent 2 years working with a fertility Dr. trying to get prenant which equaled a lot of stress. They decided to stop and let nature take its course, taking pressure off of "the deed" and were pregnant within 2 months. Good Luck to you!

I too have PCOS and my doctor put me on Progesterone to keep my cycles regular, it works really well and keeps the cysts away. I've also recently been taking Maca Root, from what I've read it's just a food that helps your body regulate hormones. I've only taken it for a couple weeks so I don't know yet if it works for me, but it's natural and there's no side effects, so it couldn't hurt! I have two kids, so it's definitely possible to get pregnant with cysts (and the first was a complete surprise)

I was also diagnosed with PCOS, about 6 years ago. My doctor put me on Yasmine at first, then I went off it because I don't like the side effects that being on the pill gives me (I've tried 4 different pills!). We finally settled on doing a 6-7 day cycle of Provera to prevent more cysts once or twice a year (I tried Metformin and it didn't do anything for me). The first treatment worked for a while, but kicked off about 6 mos. later, and my dr. moved to a different state (she was a specialist in the field at the University of Iowa hospitals). A year after that I had my annual exam and my new OB prescribed me a 10-day cycle of Provera. This one did the trick, and I was regular for about a year and a half, w/no cysts, and got pregnant about 5 mos. ago. That treatment worked for me, I know everyone is different, but I've been where you are and hated every minute. I'm not saying Provera is a miracle drug, but it did work for me. Also, when I WAS on Yasmine, it worked better than any other pill I've been on.

Just my two cents. I really hope that whatever you and your doctor decide helps! PCOS sucks, doesn't it? :)

I have PCOS. We went to Pope Paul the VI Institute in Omaha. Dr Hilgers trains doctors all over the world and has great success treating fertility issues as naturally as possible. He is Catholic witch is a great benefit when you don't want to harm your body with artificial hormones that carry heavy side effects. We have had six children. I would suggest that you get on the PPVI Institute web sight and see if there is a doctor near you that has been trained with his clinic.

K. - I don't know anything about the cysts and birth control and this isn't the advice you were looking for. But I was wondering if you've thought about any alternative methods. I have a friend who is an acupuncturist. She has worked with many women who are trying to get pregnant.

She's located in the northern suburbs. If you're interested in talking to her about acupuncture as a form of fertility, let me know and I'll get you her contact information.

I know the drugs work for some women, but every drug has side affects even those deemed "safe."

Good luck,

K.,
I am not sure of the answers to your questions, but was also diagnosed with PCOS. I strangely got pregnant on my own the first time after having no cycle for 6 months. The second time I went to a Traditional Chinese Medicine Dr. I've always had a 60 day cycle and my treatments, once every 3 weeks got me cycling and on a 33 day cycle in 4 months with no drugs. It was amazing and wonderful. If you want more info, let me know. Good luck on your journey. It's so frustrating to have to work so hard to have a baby.
