J.R.
in october, they are having a petting zoo by Joe Pool Lake in Grand Prairie, off of Lake Ridge by the Marina.
I am teaching my four year old daughter through Beatrix Potter, James Herriot, and Uncle Remus tales all of which have farm and woodland creatures, specifically bunny rabbits. We have dogs and cats so getting one really isn't an option for us, but my daughter has never seen a real rabbit. I was wondering if any moms out there knew of a petting zoo or farm that doesn't cost an arm and leg where she could see and touch and observe animals like geese, bunnies, pigs, sheep etc. I am willing to travel pretty much anywhere in the southern metroplex Arlington, Mansfield, Grand Prairie, De Soto, Duncanville, Cedar Hill, and if need be out towards Waxahachie and the 287 area that way.

HI!
This is kinda a ways away, but last month my family and I stayed at the Country Woods Inn in Glen Rose. It is about an hour from our house in S. Arlington. It is actually a B&B, but each family has their own cabin with beds, full kitchen, central A/C, and a campfire ring outside the door. Anyway, they have animals there that you can pet and feed, including geese, turkeys, rabbits, a donkey, goats, and horses. Our family paid $150 for one night during the week. I think it's a little bit more on the weekend, like $175. If you'd like to see pictures of our trip, check out my blog post about it:

Hi J.,
It isn't a petting zoo, but there is a pet store in Arlington that has the bunny rabbits and hamsters in a big open bin with no lid so you can hold them. They even some of the big birds out where you can touch them too. We took our 14 mo. old there and he had a good time petting them. They have some of the puppies in cages down lower so he could see them at his level thru the glass, he had fun watching them too.
Don't know if you would want to come that far just for a pet store, but it is Petland in Lincoln Square off Collins...kind of close to I-30.
There is a great seasonal petting zoo/pumpkin patch in Grand Prarie every year. Well worth the trip.
not sure if they have bunnies, but Green Oaks Petting Farm will be in Grand Prairie in October. You can look them up on the internet and see if it list their animals or a contact for them so you can ask. I usually take my 2 year old to the pet store to see the bunnies though- she loves that. The name is either Green Oaks petting Farm or Green Meadows petting farm. Sorry- it's been almost a year and I can't recall now, but I now they are coming for sure.
I noticed the Flower Mound Pumpkin Village has a petting zoo. If this is not too far you might check with them about the animals.
There is a place in Mansfield, Tx called Country Critters Farm. It should have everything and then some of what you are looking for. You can go on their website at www.countrycrittersfarm.com for all the details of it. I think your daughter will love it. If you wait until the fall, they will have a big pumpkin patch out there also with hayrides and other activities. Anyway, God bless with your writing and your ministry.
