I am going to be looking for a babysitter and we need some advice from any mom's who have any experience with this. I have a 1 year old baby girl that I am looking for someone to either come to my home or I can take her to their home depending on the distance. I was wondering what is a reasonable rate to pay. I have done some research and found anywhere from 9-12$/hr. I am not worried about the person doing any kind of chores or housework. We are certainly willing to pay top dollar for good childcare and someone we feel comfortable with. What is your opinions on in home childcare vs. a larger setting like a Kindercare-we would like her to have interaction with other children as well-but I am concerned about the attention (or lack of)that she may receive in a large setting. I would appreciate any advice/suggestions about this or any good/bad experiences you may have had with current or past babysitters. I am very nervous about returning to work. Thank you .

Hi, I am starting up a childcare service in my home.I have a 4 year old boy and a 1 year old girl. I am only looking to take in 2 kids so I can give my attention to all the kids. My son will be in preschool 5 days a week so he will rarley be home. I live in Joliet, right off Larkin(Weber) and Ingalls. Fenced in yard and alot of toys, sandbox and a park right around the corner. Let me know if interested and if we are close to eachother.

If you can find a home daycare that has structure almost like a preschool setting you will be much better off especially with your baby at a young age. I wouldn't recommend a center until age 2 if not 3. I have experienced it both ways, and am happily in a HOME daycare situation where it's run with structure and activities. Instead of just 'free' play all day, which is not good for anyone. Please feel free to contact me if you would like more info..

Hi N.. I live on the border of Oswego and Aurora, not too far from Plainfield. I am a working mom. My husband and I have worked out our schedules so that one of us is usually home with our two girls 3 and 1.5. Instead of putting your daughter in daycare, maybe we can swap baby-sitting and save money. We typically run into a dilemma about one time per week. For my job, I work with autistc children. I am trained in CPR, First Aid, and defensive driving. LEt me know if you would like to meet and discuss this further. Thanks, L.

Hi N., I am a home daycare provider located in Aurora and am within your budget. It looks like you live in Plainfield so I may be out of your way. But I do have a questionairre that has questions a parent should ask a daycare provider to get a feel for the person. One of the things you might want to ask about is if the person is licensed. If they are it doesn't guarantee a safe loving environment but a licensed provider has to meet certain safety criteria and a limit on the number if kids in care. If you want, email me off line so I can respond and email you the questionaire. I can't attach it here. I can be reached at ____@____.com.

I have not had to deal with any child care issues for my boys, but I can say I would NEVER bring them to Kindercare. I worked at a Kindercare while pregnant with my first son, deciding to take the year off from teaching. I would never send my children there. There is a lack of attention. Also, they say they offer "pre school" in the 3 yr old room. Being an elementary teacher now I know that it is nothing like pre school. It just seems to me that if your child is not the teachers favorite, a lot of times the child is overlooked. I decided to leave the job due to some of these reasons. Sorry for such negative advice and maybe it is not like this at all Kindercares.

Hi N.. I understand your reluctancy. I also am a stay at home mother. I am currently babysitting occasionally for another mother in Plainfield. I have an 11 month old daughter and babysit on the side so that I do not have to leave her with someone else. I would be more than interested in discussing child care for the fall if you are interested. I have my child care certificate from NY state and I have worked in daycare and camp programs since 1998 up until the point that I move here from NY at the end of 2004. Please keep us in mind if you are in need of a sitter or if you need one occasionally. I will be visiting NY leaving Memorial Day through the end of June. After that I don't have any plans for revisiting for a bit. I currently charge $8 at my house $9 at someone elses house. Good luck with the search. Have a great weekend.

I have a degree in child development and also have worked in daycare centers. My advice would be to avoid group care until your daughter is 3 years old. Especially since you are already nervous about leaving her.
