Morning Sickness That Just Won't Quit

I'm roughly 8 weeks pregnant & experiencing some awful all-day morning sickness. This is my fourth pregnancy & these early weeks appear to be shaping up as miserably as those of my previous two pregnancies. I am nauseous all day & night, with absolutely no respite. I throw up a few times throughout the day but the nausea never lets up. I was sick for 20 weeks with my previous 2 pregnancies & am sooooo not looking forward to dealing with that again.

I've tried ginger capules, sea-bands & even a prescribed anti-nausea medication. I wish I could say any one of the worked...nope. Any ideas? I'm desperate!

What can I do next?

Try vitamin B6 at bed time this may help and it may take 1week for you to see any results. I know it is in the prenatal vit but some people need more:)

Morning sickness is NO fun, especially when you have other kiddos to care for as well. Zofran was my "miracle" drug. Give it a shot!

I dont miss those days! I tried the nausea meds too and the sea bands.. but after one trip to eat at a chinese buffet, that was it! Felt i couldnt go anywhere everyt smell made me sick! So i gave the doc one more visit and she said, try Vitamin B Complex. I bought both B-12 and complex because i wasnt sure. But B-complex took it away. I mean it was GONE!
I could eat again, and restraunt smells didnt affect me at all. talk to your doctor and ask if this Vitamin is going to help you.
Good luck lil' mama!

I survived my last 2 pregnancies because my chiropractor showed me a pressure point that stops nausea in short order. Do you know those seasickness bands? They work on the same idea. You have a pressure point on the inside of both wrists about 2" below where it bends. It is between the bones of your arm. Press there with your thumb, quite firmly, til your fingers tingle and the nausea diminishes. There were days I thought I would be bruised but it worked. Occassionally it was so bad I had my husband do both wrists at once! lol! I got through without meds. I also would eat just a spoonful or 2 of peppermint ice cream at night so I could sleep. Peppermint will also settle your stomach. And don't get empty, eat lots of mini-meals.

hello

I nibbled on ginger biscuits -

but to be honest an empty stomach made me worse - so maybe nibble on plain crackers or biscuits just to have something in your system to stave of the feeling
hope it helps

I'm sorry you have this unfortunate symptom to pregnancy! I know just how you feel. I had four pregnancies and all day morning sickness with vomiting with each and every one for the first 4-5 months. My mother never had a day of morning sickness with 3 pregnancies, which is so unfair! My grandmother however, had it for the first 6 months of both of hers! Everyone told me that it might be better with each new pregnancy because each is different. Well, each pregnancy was different but my having the same degree of morning sickness was the same.
Needless to say, I tried everything imaginable. Pressure point wristbands didn't work. Anti-nausea meds didn't help and made me feel out of sorts. Saltines were helpless too. I don't think there truly is any cure for this, so I can only tell you how I coped!
I found that taking my prenatal vitamins at night worked to alleviate some of the daytime nausea. I have heard that the b vitamin supplements should help but didn't hear about that until after my last one. I found that constantly eating "WHATEVER" sounded good helped me feel less sick. For me, it was any kind of Italian food with a tomato base sauce...go figure??? My husband couldn't understand why I couldn't eat bacon and eggs without getting sick but fried mozarella cheese sticks were fine!! Just the thought of these may make you sick, but just search around and try anything and everything. I felt that if I was going to get sick whether I ate or not, I would just eat. It was difficult when I felt soooo bad, but ironically it helped me feel a little better. By the fourth pregnancy, I just snacked all day long (usually something with protein & salt) and I truly believe that it helped me feel less miserable. Just don't let your stomach get empty because that is when the bile takes over! YUCK!
I am not a big advocate of any prescription meds so I would try the snacking or little sandwiches frequently. I hope this info could help. Try to stay positive and experiment to find what is right for you! Best of luck!

I feel your pain...it lasted for about 15 weeks w/the boy I am carrying now, and 26 weeks for my little girl!!! The only thing that made me feel better w/my little girl was being in water...bathtub or pool, and frozen treats...not icrecream, but icees and Zofran (anti-nausea meds from dr). This time around nothing helped!!! I tried some anti-nausea medicine, but it just knocked me out and made me groggy. People say to suck on peppermints and eat something every hour! On the brightside, my dr says that the nausea you are the better, because your body is taking to the hormones for a healthy baby! Hope you find something that works....I feel so bad for you, but seeing that this is your 4th you know it should pass SOMETIME!! Good luck!

Did anyone advise avoiding sugary or starchy foods? Protein and veggies digest more slowly, and you should have less nausea. Of course you probably already know that small frequent meals will help too, rather than getting too empty and then loading in a big meal.

I never had it as bad as you did, but what was fool proof for me was some Perrier on ice with a squeeze of lime. Some people also say to nibble on saltines all day long helps, but I never needed to do that. Good luck!

M.,

I feel so bad for you. I was lucky enough to experience nausea with only one of my two pregnancies. Thankfully, it was the second because I swore (back then when nauseated) that I would never go through it again. I have since forgotten, almost, how bad it was.

Frequent small meals of whatever sounds good to eat worked better for me. I was like you-nauseated 24/7. The only thing that made any difference was a drug named Zofran. It worked about 50% of the time. It's expensive, but helps. I'm a nurse and we use it in healthcare all of the time. My nausea finally subsided at 15 weeks, hopefully yours will to. Congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck.

Hi!
I’m sorry you are feeling so badly. I only had really bad morning sickness on my last of four.
At Sprouts in Plano there is a line of pregnancy vitamins. I think they’re called Mamma Source, but there is a huge section of pregnancy related supplements. There is a specific one for morning sickness. Morning sickness is typically cased by vitamin B deficiency. Also the people in the supplements section are super nice and helpful. Ask them.
Within about 20 minutes of taking the vitamin the nausea was gone, the overwhelming tiredness was gone and I felt normal again.
You can also try acupuncture. Did it will last two, would have done it with all, but just didn’t know about it. Email if you want a couple names.
Good Luck!
Peace & Light

I've been exactly where you are -- twice now -- and the only thing that worked for me was acupuncture. I had the constant nausea with vomiting at least 3 times a day, many times up to 6 times. I started seeing an acupuncturist and after the first visit, the nausea diminished and the vomiting slowed dramatically. I think I had a total of 5 treatments and now the moments of nausea and vomiting are very few and very far between (I'm currently 26 weeks along).

If this is an option for you, my acupuncturist is:

Can you tell I wanted to be able to reach her at any moment?! LOL Seriously though, she is wonderful to work with and very good!

PS Know that you are not alone! It's a tough situation to be in because most people don't truly understand just how bad it is or that none (absolutely NONE) of the 'typical' rememdies work.

Hi M., I feel your pain, I had morning sickness for the first 7 months and my last trimester I had horrible chest pain or gas. I had to take that medicine that melts on your tounge, do not remember the name, but very expensive. It worked sometimes and mosttimes did not. I had to remove myself from everything that made me sick. I could not smell meat, pizza, garlic, for a period even water made me sick. It was terrible, I ate very small bland meals. I thought I would lose weight, but did not - actually I gained 35 pounds with no problem. I could not eat any meat for the first 6 months, only pasta. Your hormones are very high, which is good. That means your little baby is healthy, so remember, this is good that you have morning sickness. Try to figure out what you can eat and smell and stick to that. Ask your doctor about the medicine that melts on your tounge, its worth a try.

Hang in there, it will pass soon enough and remember, this is good b/c it means your body has all the right hormones for your little one to develop.

You should ask your doctor about Zofran. There is a generic brand now and it is much cheaper than the real stuff. I took this while I went through chemo eleven years ago and also while I was pregnant with my daughter 6 years ago. I was not sick at all during chemo and it reduced my vomiting from 5 times a day to once a day. Doesn't sound like fun still, but it did help. My daughter was also given this last month when she was sick as well. It is well worth checking out.

M.,

I had the awful, awful nausea too. The dry heaving was about the worst thing in the world. What worked for me was taking Zofran (prescribed by my doctor) every day. But, even on the Zofran, I still could not brush my teeth as the thought of it made me puke everytime. I had nausea and vomiting for my entire pregnancy (even in labor) but the Zofran made it possible for me to eat and gain some weight for my baby. I think it's a miracle drug. Best of luck to you. I know this is awful, awful, but it does let up. Hopefully very soon.

Hi M.,
I have read some of the responses and I had three pregnancies with awful nausea and vomiting. I had the "morning sickness" that lasted around the clock. I feel for you. I am a nurse also and what helped me the most was Zofran. It does come in generic and it does not cause drowsiness. Ask your OBGYN for the generic Zofran ODT. ODT is the oral disentegrating tablet. It is a paper thin wafer that dissolves in your mouth in seconds. Even though there is generic available, it is still pricey but worth every penny. I also took my prenatal vitamins at night before I went to bed and that helped too.
