A.P.
I would go with Greta Grace...love that double G sound! Very catchy and if she becomes famous it works on its own-sounds like a name a star may have! Sorry but my least favorite is Caroline-they are not melodious with eachother IMO.
I am due in May and we have decided 99% on the name Gretchen (possible nick name Greta) but we are struggling with a middle name. My name is C. so we are considering Caroline as mn but we also like Grace, and Elise...Help
Gretchen Caroline
Gretchen Grace
Gretchen Elise
Any suggestions?? We like classic names but not any that are "on the rise" right now ie. Sophia, Emma etc. Love those names but we are trying to keep it a little more unique. Thanks Girls
*** Born May 17th. Gretchyn Gwyneth Bowers. "Baby GG" to her cousins (It took 3 days in the hospital to decide her middle name...Grace or Gwyneth) Daddy decided Gwyneth seemed more "Valedictorian-ish"
Thanks everyone for all the suggestions! We still havent decided. We have offically dropped Elise from the list, just not our style.
Still considering
Gretchen Grace
Gretchen Lynn
Gretchen Ingrid
kinda tetering with Lucille and Louise
???????
Last name is Bowers
I would go with Greta Grace...love that double G sound! Very catchy and if she becomes famous it works on its own-sounds like a name a star may have! Sorry but my least favorite is Caroline-they are not melodious with eachother IMO.
Darling names! I love Greta Caroline, but for the full name of Gretchen, my vote is for Gretchen Elise.
Good luck!
I vote for Gretchen Elise...I also had the thought of Elizabeth, it sounds pretty too! Or what about Gretchen Kathleen or Gretchen Christine?? Just more suggestions!
I like Gretchen Elise the best (I think the two syllables after Gretchen sound nice). The first name that popped in my head before I read your suggestions was Gretchen Renee.
We're trying to come up with a unique girls name at the present as well! Thankfully we have until May to decide. :)
I'm so jealous! Our girl name we had picked out was Greta, but we never had a girl!!! We were planning Greta Renee'. Gretchen Elise is very nice, I like that one too. What about Gretchen/Greta Rae?
For some reason, Gretchen Elizabeth popped in my head so i'll put that out there for you! :)
I vote for Gretchen Elise. It flows so well! Congratulations and I hope all goes well when your daughter arrives!
i have to say i like caroline the least too :( sorry! my family "tradition" name is fay, so i feel your pain. it doesn't go with everything! but gretchen caroline isn't awful, so if it has sentimental meaning for you it could work, i would do it. but i had a question, why change the spelling? we have four generations of fay in our family (not fey, not faye!), and those women/girls have a really special bond. i think it's great. changing the spelling kinda seems to take away from the specialness. maybe that's just me! but- i like both of the others too! so i guess i'm no help lol. but i liked what someone said about the syllables, and i do like the 2-1 combination better. another factor is your last name tho, don't forget. make sure you're not spelling anything wierd! and remember that whatever name you choose, will be "her" in the end anyway ;)
I love the sound of Gretchen Elise. Although all 4 names are beautiful on their own, Gretchen Caroline has a really l-o-n-g sound to it, and Gretchen Grace sounds harsh, I guess because of the 2 hard Gs. Congratulations, and good luck to you and your new baby girl!
I also thought of Gretchen Elizabeth when I started to read your post.
Seeing all the names you listed I do like Gretchen Elise. I have always loved Elise for a middle name.
Best of luck and congrats on the little one!
I think Greta is adorable! I vote for Caroline as a middle name. Too cute!
Gretchen Elise is my vote!! Easy to hear, easy to say! Not too many syllables.
My favorite mn for Gretchen is Elise- it sounds more feminine and softens the stronger sound of Gretchen in my opinion. Good luck and CONGRATS! (And I'm all about unique names too- my little boy is Kempton and I LOVE IT!!)
Gretchen Anne
Gretchen Marie
Gretchen Nicole
Gretchen D. (my first name...hee hee)
there's also
Louise
Sage
Lynn
You know what my Mom told me, go to the back door, yell the name you've picked 3 times, if you can yell it three times without messing up, that's a good name!
Good Luck!
If you do Gretchen Grace they will probably end up calling her GG but it is the most beautiful.
I am a fan of Native American names. There are several very lovely ones, that have a lot of beautiful meanings. For example, the name "Netane" or "Netana" (pronounced na-tawn-ah) is the word for "daughter" in several different native american languages, Navajo being one. Our second daughter's middle name is "Tanis" (tah-nees), which is Cree for "our daughter". Her name is Corinne Tanis. There is also the name "Tehya" (taya) or "Teva" (Hopi for "dance")
I always thought the name "Malia" was really nice. I believe that is a Hawaiian name. I seem to remember that it meant "breeze". My husband's cousin has two little girls who have some awfully pretty names - Allegra, Brisa (breesa) and Maya.
So......
Gretchen Netana
Gretchen Tanis
Gretchen Malia
Gretchen Allegra
Gretchen Maya
Gretchen Tehya
Gretchen Teva
They're certainly different. You aren't likely to hear of too many of these names.
Hope that helps!
E.
As soon as I saw your question the first thing that popped into my head is Gretchen Lynn. If I were to pick one of the 3 names you like I would go with Gretchen Grace - it "flows" better than the other 2
Gretchen Elise seems to roll off the tongue most easily. Gretchen Caroline doesn't really roll of the tongue very easily at all. Gretchen Grace doesn't roll very easily either, but then her initials would be GG-another nick name. I vote for Gretchen Elise hands down.
Good luck and congratulations to the new addition to your family!
G. Marie - although I'm partial since that is my name. Just glad to hear that someone is using the name!
I like Gretchen Grace the best. Not only because it's my daughter's middle name, too, but I just love the beauty and loveliness the name invokes. I also like Gretchen Leigh and Gretchen Elizabeth. I really like the name Caroline but not with Gretchen, sorry. Anyone in the family you could honor with her mn?
I vote for Gretchen Elise! Like others before me, I think it rolls off the tongue and sounds rich.
I vote Gretchen Grace! It flows well and Grace is such a beautiful and classic name!
I LOVE your choice of Gretchen and the nickname of Greta. That is beautiful and not commonly used, wonderful choice. I like Gretchen Caroline, but Gretchen Grace has better flow. If you are not convinced, perhaps try combining family names or two favorite names as the middle name. As an example my daughter's middle name is Leanne, because my husbands middle name is Lee and my mothers middle name is Ann. It makes her name special as well as classic. Good Luck
I like your 3rd suggestion, Gretchen Elise. Sounds classy! Would look great on the silver screen or on tv! :0)
I know you have now stated that you have dropped Elise from the running; but it is very pretty. I was going to come and suggest Marie, before I saw your list of possibilities. I would stay away from Louise & Lucille as they tend to be an older generation name just as Gretchen is. If later she decides to drop the Gretchen because of it being older generation, many times they go by the middle name. So have this in mind when considering the name. Many of the older generation names are coming back into turn though. Trust me in my line of work, I see it all. I do think you should stay away from the double Gs and make the middle name a simple syllable and not too long. Ingrid is a third generation name as well. Just be careful with the use of all of the third generation names unless you are trying to honor the name of a grandparent. I just had a girl name her baby Matilda Gertrude (shake head here); and all of us sighed for the baby. Now Matilda Grace would have been pretty but two third generation names, she has no saving grace. Now I do not like the trendy names either; I remember in the late 90's every third person had an Ashley Marie (Oh my). I am happy you are towing with names as some people forget the kid has to keep this name for the rest of their lives.
I like Caroline, that's also my daughter's middle name.
Gretchen Elise sounds better. I like the previous idea of Gretchen Grace if you wanted to nickname her GG or "GiGi" but the double hard Gs sound harsh.
If you're looking for another nm suggestion, I like Gretchen Johanna. Johanna has German roots, like Gretchen. Seems to flow well to my ear.
Congrats!
How about Gretchen Rose Bowers?
I enjoy everyone's suggestions -- you could still use the nick name of GG even if you go with Gretchen Elise or Gretchen Caroline.
I vote for Gretchen Grace Bowers.
I have an Antigone Grace and a Lilly Faith. We chose Grace and Faith because they are not only classic beautiful names but attributes I hope my daughters posess.
I am also pregnant with my third. If it is a girl she will be Cassidy (Cassi) Joy and if it is a boy he will be Peyson Justice. And to think I never wanted to go with a theme!
Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy!
How about Gretchen Mae?
Gretchen Elise sounds better than the other 2. When I was deciding, I said first and middle over and over to hear what it sounded like. Then put all 3 names together and imagine it being announced at graduation, at a wedding,....
I also like Gretchen Elizabeth, Gretchen Marie flows easily off the tongue, too.
So does Gretchen Renee....
Oh yeah...and if it's too hard to decide between a couple put the initials and paper and see what kids at school are going to do with those!
GMD, GRD, not too bad.....GED, not sure if little kids would imply that she couldn't graduate high school....older kids might.
I have some adorable nieces and nephews whose parents didn't think about that and the poor kids can't monogram their backpacks due to initials.
I agree with Christy! I love Greta and I think Gretchen Caroline sounds the best, plus is has meaning for you!
I like Gretchen Elizabeth or Gretchen Leigh Ann.
Aww. Too bad you dropped Elise from the list. I too am pregnant and if it's a girl we are thinking about Gretchen. Elise would be top of my list for her as a middle name, except it's my niece's middle name...So, I'm enjoying looking at your ideas for some of my own! i also think that Gretchen Marie is really pretty. Let us know your final decision! Good luck.
I like the Gretchen Grace because of the nickname GG. But Gretchen Elise sounds better. Our daughters MN is Lucille, what about Gretchen Lucille? Nickname Greta Lu!
Good luck and Congratulations!
Eilene, Grethchen Eilene
Gretchen Eve B. is really pretty. You will know that this is the name for her if she is born on the eve of my birthday ie May 22. Therefore if she is born May 21 then there you go!. (Smile)
out of those three I like Gretchen Elise best. It just flows well. Gretchen Caroline would be my second choice. Good luck!
I like Gretchen Marie-it rolls off your tongue easily. You don't give your last initial so we don't know what the letters will do together but you might think about that also. Some monograms are not the best to live with. She will have a hard time her early years spelling Gretchen and Marie is a bit smaller yet sound poetic when said out loud. I work in schools and hear so many names that are different. It really does not matter what you name her just remember to use her name proudly and she will be proud of it and you too.
My name is G. and so is our daughter's!
G. is a fairly unique name so you might want to go with something simple or classic.
Also maybe pick something that has personal meaning, like a family name or a variation of one (my mom's name is Maureen but we named our daughter Maura).
One last idea: G. is a German name, so you could stick with something else German. I don't know a ton of German names, but you could check it out.
Good luck! And, BTW, Greta is my nickname too!
Oh, I have to go with the moms who are suggesting Gretchen Elizabeth. I'm one of those weird ones who thinks the syllables are important, too. They need to be different. Gretchen Elise is pretty, but it is 2-2, which makes it kind of "bouncy." Of course...since we all have no idea what your last name is, I would go with something that doesn't get too, too long. I liked Gretchen Leigh, too. You could always call her Gretel if you wanted to combine FN and MN.
My suggestion, Gretchen Rose, also Gretchen Elizabeth which
is my name and has many nicknames....
Gretchen Elise, Gretchen Elizabeth, Gretchen Carleen ( Karleen, etc. ), Gretchen Kristine, Gretchen Giesela ( also German and we had a German neighbor with that name. So pretty and Gisela also a spelling I think ), Gretchen Gabrielle, and Grace is nice but the flow not so smooth. Also Gretchen Carina. I like Greta Grace though if it's the Greta instead of Gretchen.
Lots of German names on this site:
http://www.babynology.com/german-girlnames-g500.html
Gretchen Leigh or Lea.......I prefer something simple. Grace also sounds nice.
I just saw this:
Ok my 2 cents:
I don't like Gretchen Grace (G G), too many Gs.
Lynn (I don't know, too many Lynn middle names all over).
How about Gretchen Lina or
Gretchen Annie
I have a Gretchen Rose
I like Greta better than Gretchen, but...
Gretchen Olivia
Gretchen Elizabeth...depending on what your last name is, the Elizabeth rolls with Gretchen ..or the Elize
My sisters name is Gretchen Marie and I think that sounds pretty. She is smart, witty and looks somewhat like Julia Roberts, I think it sounds strong yet feminine. Good luck!
M.
Gretchen Anne?
Gretchen Marie?
Gretchen Antrice?
I think that they are all nice, but personally prefer the mn's that have more than one sylable. They seem to flow better, but of course that is without knowing what the last name is too.... With the last name the extra sylable's might be too much.
Here's a funny for you, You know the only time the middle name is really used? At birth when parents are introducing the new one, then when you as a parent want to get the child's attention - So make sure it is a name you like hollaring out....
Gretchen Grace sounds best, and she can be nic named GG. Is Gretchen a family name? I don't hear it too often...We named our baby Girl Kara Audrey. Originally it was going to be Audrey Kara, but friends thought Audrey was too old of a name, and to switch it as Kara being a more modern, unique name. I am glad we went with Kara as the first name.
My sister recently chose Hope for her daughter's middle name. I love it - also think it sounds very classic with Gretchen. Gretchen Hope.
I think Gretchen Grace has too many G's personally. =)
Some of it depends on your last name too.
Gretchen Marie
Gretchen Louise
Gretchen Emma (I like that one)
Gretchen Emily
Gretchen Sophia
I love the name Grace as a first name, if we didn't already have 8 kids that woulda been a girls name I would have picked. =)
Good luck and happy pushing!!
Good Morning C., I didn't see you had the examples listed right off. So when I read your Post title I said Gretchen Grace.
I also like Gretchen Carleen ( not sure of spelling though)
Whatever you choose yell it Out Loud a few times...lol and see if it flows together.
God Bless you and Congratulations!! Keep us posted please. We all love Babies here!!!
K. Nana or 5
Lee, Leigh, Leigh Ann, Leann, Faith, Hope, Joy, Rose. Good luck. Picking just the right name was always so stressful for me - I mean, it's the one thing we give them that they keep forever.
R.
Gretchen Elizabeth Bowers
i have always loved the middle name Marie. i think it is nice and classy. I also think Rose, Lee, Faith and Hope would be good!
How very exciting to be choosing a name. Congratulations!
I vote Gretchen Elise (but my daughter's name is Elise, so I'm a little partial to it.
Not that any of the other info. I give will be of any help to you, I just wanted to say that I also liked the nick name Gretal. And my grandmother's name is Gisela; but she goes by her middle which is Elsie (where we got a form of my daughter's name). Gisela is definitely one that is not very common.
