I am having the Essure procedure done next Friday. Just what experiences others had. I chose this over tubal ligation because it was less invasive.

So What Happened?

Thank you for your responses. Here is what happened..
I called my husband's cousin who is a very well respected ob-gyn in another town to get his opinion. His first recommendation was the IUD, Mirena. His reasoning behind that was if someone had menstral problems, the hormones in the Mirena would adddress many of these. I told him that I have none of the problems he discussed and I would like not to have to worry in 5 years about replacing the IUD or deciding on something else. (Oh, I had the Mirena before deciding to try for a third. Loved it! No period!)
He then said, without any hesitation, that the Essure was the way to go. You don't have the risks associated with surgery. His office has had much success with Essure. The patients that have had the procedure have really liked it and would have it done again.
So, last Friday, I had the Essure procedure. I was given Valium and Toradol before the procedure to help with any anxiety. The doctor then performed a cervical block. The only true pain associated with the procedure was cramping while the coils were being placed. The first side was very mild, the second was fairly painful. But, the entire procedure only took 6 minutes. Yes, 6 minutes and no more babies! And, then, I walked out...pain-free. I took Anaprox afterward. It is now Monday and I feel great.

I have not had the procedure myself but I do know a couple of people that have. Do your research, please. My friends have had "very" bad experiences. Recently a friend went to the Dr. and he was totally against this procedure and he had his medical reasons. So please make sure this is right for you.

I personally havent' had it done but my mother had it done last year. She chose to do it because she was 50 and still having painful heavy periods. She has been pleased with it so far and didn't have any pain afterwards. She does still have some spotting each month but it's much better than before. I know several other people who have had it done and also been pleased with it and had no periods afterward. I think my Mom is just that small percentage that they say will still have a period afterward. Hopefully it will work well for you if that's what you choose to do. I am strongly considering it when I get done having children in a few years.
