If the glasses/mugs are still wet, I dry them with a towel. THEN put it away on the shelf, standing up.
I'm unloading the dishwasher in the breakroom at work and it hits me (sorry, that was my Carrie, Sex In the City impersonation) anyway, some of the mugs and glasses are face down, some are standing up. I suppose, due to differant people putting dishes away. I dont like to put mine face down, because I dont want the rim of the glass sitting on old dusty shelf paper and then touching my mouth. Sometimes they arent completly dry, so, I assume people dont want to put them in there standing up with water in them. SO, up or down at your house? im obviously bored out of my skull.
____@____.com!!! I know, right! all new low. one hour, 21 minutes, and 41 seconds to go.
@aa yup
If the glasses/mugs are still wet, I dry them with a towel. THEN put it away on the shelf, standing up.
I dust off my shelves every now and then when they are empty and the glasses are in the dishwasher. There is rarely any dust there to start with since the cabinet doors are closed all the time. If there is dust, I think that same dust will fall INTO the glasses while they are on the shelf if they are right side up waiting to be used. So my glasses go in upside down. I have some cute "decorative" coffee cups I like to display right side up. My cabinet doors are clear glass so they show nicely right above the glasses that I want upside down.lol Across the kitchen above the stove we keep more coffee mugs upside down because there can now and then be a tiny bug that gets in them from the oven and stove vent that goes thru that cabinet. Those doors are not glass and I dont care how they look. We have pest control but I still worry about a bug crawling down the vent and dying in the cup. (o:
I put them down usually, sometimes up. I put them down because I don't like dust or bugs crawling in them. Not that dust is likely to get into them since we use them regularly! And, I don't worry too much about the water. It seems to fall and dry out of my cups for the most part. I put them face up when I'm not thinking and because I want them to dry out. I know I just listed opposite reasons.
Apparently I don't really care either way! But I mostly put them face down. The cabinet bottom is very clean. And if a bug got in, that's way grosser!
I have the rubbery gripper liners and I put ours rim down.
mine are always down, not really sure why my glasses are always down too my brother tells me this is strange. Really reaally need to go home now because I actually read and answered this question
I'm right with you!! Always up! I also make sure that in the dishwasher my utensils are always pointing down so that when I unload I'm only touching the handles and not the part you eat with!
Up - down reminds me of what we had to do when I worked in restaurants and we were worried about roaches. My house is pest free, so I leave them up so that the lip stays clean.
Same as you, and I am also bored out of my skull.
EEEW! Up of course! I am with you on this one.
ETA: Christine (XINE), clearly you are not as OCD assome of us.
Well, at my house I don't have old dusty shelf paper on my shelves. :)
I actually have some I turn down and some up (I stack the "up" ones on the bottoms of the "down" ones).
At work NOTHING of mine ever touches the counter...I wash my mug and bowl, dry them and put the UP in my overhead in my office.
At home (where things are clean!) it's down in the dw and down n the cupboards!
this may seem lazy but i put them facing up so when i get a glass out of the cabinet it is already in the up position ready for ice or beverage. sometimes i mix up and down just for the fun of it, be a rebel of only up or down glasses. lol
I put all my cups and bowls (but not plates cuz they slide off each other) down because I was at a friends house once and went to get a drink and there was a COCKROACH in the cup!!! I would rather have dust on the rim than freaking bugs crawling in and out!!! So that's why I have them all down! :o)
UP! oh wait what?!! that's not what were talking about LOL
At work I def put them up. I put mine down at home:)
I like mine up for the same reason. Hubby likes them down so they fit better. I also rinse every cup before I fill it.
wow i can't believe how many people are on here while at work...ya'll would be so fired if you worked for me lol.
i love this question and i have to say - i do both because i can never decide. it seriously depends on the day...lol. does that make me wishy washy?? lol!
I put mine up. I will totally freak out if someone put them in face down. YUCK!!!! Either way though I always rinse my glass before I use it, even if I am the one that always does the dishes. LOL! And, I have to have a straw if we go eat ANYWHERE!!! The thoughts that run through my head just GROSS me out!!!
Face down. Im OCD when it comes to the dishwasher. Everything has a exact spot. Period!
Mine are down in the cupboard and in the dishwasher.
In the cupboard because well, our shelves arent dirty like when your at work where no one cares, and they are down in the dishwasher too because I hate it when they fill up with that water.
I would rather take a sec and wipe it down before use at work :)
I don't use the glasses at work. People handwash them, and then lay them face down on the counter on an old plasticy thing. Bleh. Sometimes I'll bring a cup from home and forget it at work, and the next day it will be on the plasticy thing. BLEGH! I just take it home and wash it.
As for at home....face up, even though we have those rubber things on each shelf, same with you on the whole lips touching the rim thing.
I have my own personal cups at work that i take home to wash (a tad on the anal side) at home its always been down. my parents were like that and i grew up like that. no reasoning. My husbands parents when we were dating were always up and it just looked off. He now puts them down :) although at his moms house im pretty sure he never emptied out the dishwasher ever.
Always up, and while your talking about it. Knifes up in the dishwasher along with all other silverware up.
Apparently I'm more OCD than most, because my shelves are (ahem) not dusty. Because I wipe them down with Clorox wipes. Weekly. Then I put my cups upside down on them. The thought of there being a bug or something going INTO my glass sends me over the edge (even though I've never seen a bug in my kitchen, IT COULD HAPPEN!), hence I don't put them right side up in the cabinet. Ahhh, I am so disturbed. But, step 1 is admitting I have a problem, right? LOL
Lord, 2 hours 52 minutes to go until I can leave work... ugggggh...
I'm w/ you, but DH is not. And on this silly one I let him do it his way.
His reasoning...spider phobia.
He thinks he will have a spider in his cup. Lol.
I would rather have a spider in my cup and see it than have a spider walking on the lip of my cup and never be the wiser.
Oh well.
Germs. Yum.
Both in my house - not sure why never thought about it ! LOL
MY MY we are soooo bored today !!! Wheres that shot of whiskey????????
Bottoms UP. Lol. I always rinse off things before using them. :)
