How to Get Toddlers Socks Clean

My toddlers socks get so dirty from him running around outside, I can't always catch him before he runs onto the patio with no shoes.
I use oxy spray for my sons socks. Let them sit and then put them in with our socks. I use bleach too. I do a extra soak and rinse in the wash hoping that would help. They never seem to get too clean. Does anyone have any ideas how to get them cleaner?
Thanks in advance!

Dark-colored socks? Lower standards?

For general stain-treatment, I like the spray-n-wash + Resolve spray. Works great on my son's Tball uniform - but I have to admit, I have never stain-treated a sock!

I've found that dual action Spray 'n Wash stain treater to get out just about anything. Better than Zout or Oxyclean, though I do always add Oxyclean to every load of my daughter's clothes.

Ah yes. I am oh too familiar with this. NONE of my kids put shoes on to head outside and it drives me nuts!! So honestly, bleach will only lessen your time of that clothing; if you soak in that. It will make it thinner quick! I use liquid Arm & Hammer whitening detergent (Or Era is good, must be liquid though) Soak with a little Lestoil. Overnight if it's bad. (COLD water; hot sets stains and shrinks) Yes, Lestoil's a household cleaner but it says on the bottle for clothes. I get EVERYTHING out with this. Then rinse good. Wash as normal with Dreft or bleach or whatever you use after. You must re-wash to get the lestoil out. I personally think it smells bad!! LOL And my children have super sensitive skin! You can use it on colors or whites. None of my bibs have food stains or anything either! Good luck, my secret is out! People wonder why my kids socks are so white they think they are new! I say ancient chinese secret (old joke)!! hee.hee.

Let him. =) Have a few "nice" socks tucked away to wear to church or special outings. OR get dark colored socks. It is one of those things, kids will pick up dirt just by sitting still, hehe! Teach him to take his own socks off by the door. And if he gets them dirty, oh well. Life is short, they are only socks. Look at his hair in the sunlight, listen to him laugh, watch his face as he plays in the dirt. Hmmm, lucky KID! =)

I had the same problem with my youngest child and found that putting arm & hammer baking soda in the wash helped a lot. I use about half a cup in a medium size wash cycle with about half cup of bleach. Good Luck.

Try Borax ( you can find it in the laundry soap isle). The stuff is amazing...I have been able to get everything from chocolate to grass stains, blood to diaper blow outs with this, without the yellowing and destruction bleach does. I just throw abour half a cup in with my kids clothes and let them soak overnight. Plis the stuff is really cheap too. Also, the other thing I do is try to buy the Hanes socks with the grey bottoms, it hides a lot of the gunk :)Also it is a lot less toxic than bleach.

Hey Mary,

I think it is Hanes or Fruit of the Loom who make a sock with a stain resistant cotton. The socks come with grey on the toe and heel and say it on the package. For newly stained socks take them off right away and
soak in a bucket a little bleach and Oxy Clean go along way. The key to a stain is do not let it set in the fabric.

I use Oprah's favorite cleaners made by Shaklee. They were proven to be 50% more effective than Oxiclean.

I get them from Kurt Hjelle. I can't locate his web site address, but his cell phone number is ###-###-####. Give his a call. He can set you up. His email is ____@____.com

Mary K Best thing I every tried is baking soda. Put cold water in a plastic tub or bucket. Put enough baking soda in that the water feels gritty. Soak for half an hour. Rub phels nampha soap in to the stained area. It is time consuming but it works the best of all I tried. Lestoil may also help. Good luck.

For my daughter's white onesies and socks (which are always dirty or have food stains), I put in a pail of 40% bleach 60% hot water and sit it in the sun for a few hours on our back deak (where she has no access to it).

Then I dump the whole thing in the wash with towels and wash in hot water. I only have to do this every once in a while and they get very white again.

If this ever doesn't work, I decided I was going to tie-dye them and forget about it:)
