I am about to start work at the post office and I was curious as to how much daycare costs. Maybe someone could tell me how much they pay- in any situation, like at-home or in a regular daycare center. I have two kids, one 5 months old and the other 2 years old. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

For an in-home Montessori daycare licensed by the state(in Dallas), we pay $720.00 per month or $180.00 per week. I found that this was cheaper than the commercial-type daycares such as Children's World and I like the situation much ,much better. My daugther gets more one-on-one attention and there are only 12 children total.

Hi Y.,
I have experienced both my children being taken care of at home, sent to a private home and send to a daycare facitity. From all of these, I must say I like the daycare the best. Mainly because I know at a facility (a really good one I might add) you know there are rules which are being followed and people watching them all day, including myself of the webcam they provide. I had an aweful experience at a home daycare and the stay at my home helper was not teaching my child. The daycare has a cirriculum which I love and the boys love. Good luck to you!

There is an at-home place I use that charges $160 a week for a 14 month old. Most places here in the Denton area charge between $105-$120 a week.

When I was searching, it was around $600 - $750 for one child under 2 -- this is just for the places I'd narrowed down after looking at many. Most places give about 10% discount for a second child. I've heard good things about Primrose Schools. The one in Denton is one of the few centers with zero violations at the TX department of Family and Protective Services site http://www.dfps.state.tx.us/

I use Children's Choice Learning Center in Lewisville - right next to the hospital - I pay $175 per week for a 2 year old for 5 days a week, up to 13 hours per day. The rates change +/- $10 depending on age. (i'm pretty sure.) So your 5 month old should be around $195. There is a discount with more than one child, but not sure what it is.

You'll find every price range imaginable from outrageous to cheap - it just depends on what you want for your children, and what arrangements you end up being comfortable with.

When I was looking for daycare in the beginning, I found a website for in-home providers in the Lewisville area (I ended up going with a nanny in the beginning). I don't remember the site, but I do remember I found them in the phone book - so you might try that. In-home care is usually a little bit cheaper than an actual daycare center.

With 2 kids, you might consider a nanny - which will run about the same as a daycare center, unless you want the social interaction.

Good luck!

Hi Y.!! I am an in-home provider and can tell you some about childcare costs.
In-Home care can range anywhere from $130 per week (for a provider who keeps more children, does drop-ins, has a high turnover, lives in a lower income area etc...)to $210 a week (for a high-demand provider or certified teacher.) I personall charge $195 (I have no openings so I am not advertising for myself.) Some in-home providers will give a discount for siblings.

I know my friend takes her son to Kindercare and pays $175 a week. Some of the daycares that cater to upper income professionals can be $1200 per month plus.

Bottom line, visit all of the daycare centers in person. Ask LOTS of questions. Whoever you use, look them up on the Texas licensing website to see if they've been written up. Ask to look at their ENTIRE house/center. If they say they do pre-school, ask to see some of the work they've done. Try to fins a list of specific questions you can ask each center/provider.

Also remember, you get what you pay for. If you run into providers who charge significantly less, there may be a good reason they charge less.

Good luck :)

Y.,
I live in Corinth and run an in home childcare. I charge $30 per day for under 2, and $25 per day for older children. I have seen centers charge as much as $200 week for an infant and at least $150 for 2 yr olds. Obviously a nanny would be more, around $400-$500 per week. Hope this helps

Hi,
My name is K., I am a stay at home mom, I made the desision to stay home with my daughter and help other moms out by watching children from my home when I started calling around to get daycare. I was told the average class size was 25 children, and I believe that is too many. Children need individual attition and need to know and feel that they are special. I have 3 openings right now because I will only keep no more than 4 children at a time so that I can give them individual attition. I found out that the average price for daycare for my 15 month old was between $160 and $175 for 1 week pluse admiting fee's. Mothers day out progams were asking for $115 for just one day. Because those price's are absolutly outragous, I have set my price at $100 per child regaurdless of age or shift (1st,2nd, or 3rd) for a 40 hour week. I have watched children for about 8 yrs on and off and was a live in care giver/housekeeper for almost 3 yrs for 1 lady. I have plenty of experance, and referances available. If you are intrested in speaking with me or speaking with my referances please feel free to give me a call at ###-###-####. I hope to hear from you soon.

God Bless,
K. A.

Hi Y.,
I just enrolled my kids in an in-home daycare. I think the lady charges $35/day per one kid and with two kids it would be $30/day each, so that would be $60/day with both kids full-time. I only have mine in part-time so I pay $70/day for my two kids.
Hope that helps,
J.

Hi Y.,

I pay $40 per day for an in-home daycare, 3 days per week. When I was researching, most centers were $200 per week for under 1 year, and $160-180 per week for older children. I would also check out DFPS website at: http://www.dfps.state.tx.us/Child_Care/About_Child_Care_L....

Good luck, and I hope this helps!
