Birth Control After Second Child

Well, I guess I'm in the minority here, but since nobody's mentioned it, I thought I'd throw this out there. I get a Depo shot once every 3 months. No weird foreign body inserted into my body (sorry, but that just creeps me out!), no periods, no side effects, no remembering to take a pill. I love it!

Check out Paragard. It is an non hormonal IUD. I have had it & it has been great. No sides effects just heavy periods the for 3 cycles after getting it. I have had friends who had the Mirena & they had it removed for mood swings, cramps and weight gain but some ladies have no problems with it. I wanted a non hormonal method & so the Paragard works for me. It will not affect breastfeeding.

After my second I went on the min-pill so i could keep breast feeding then went to regular birth control pills. At my annual check-up I decided to simplify my life and do the mirena. It has been awesome. Cramps for the first few hours after they inserted it then nothing since. My period went away after the second month. It is crazy and I'm so happy I did it. There is also a non-hormonal IUD that you can use if you are breastfeeding. I heard that it increases, not decreases, the side effects of your periods but that's about all I know on it.

Hi from my understanding there are 2 main types of IUD. the Mirena and Paragaurd. Now the Mirena is good for up to 5 years, the Paragaurd up to 10. I got pregnant while on the pill because my doc prescribed me an antibiotic that made my BC not work. (both prescribed by the same doctor!) anyways after i had my first i decided that i should explore other bc options. I figured i would just get the mirena becuase it releases hormones (same ones your body already makes) and the paraguard is made out of a copper, and that sounded iffy to me. but after talking to my dr, who said she doesnt even place the mirena becuase so many people have problems with it. she told me she has had to go in and surgically remove them from peoples abdomens, stomachs, GI tract. NO BUENO! I have a few friends with the Mirena and they all suffered from side effects becuase of the hormones like mood swings, weight gain, headaches, and really bad menstreul cramps. So with that being said my dr talked me into the paraguard.
It took a total of 5 minutes to get everything ready and place it. I didnt feel a thing! I have had it in for about 2 months and so far so good. no side effects except for light cramping and spotting the first few days, which is supposed to be normal. you don't have to worry about taking a pill every day or using condoms. Its aMAZING!! haha and i DO breastfeed and it has not affected it one bit! (i'm not sure if the mirena causes BFing problems or not, but it may considering the hormones) well good luck i would highly reccommend it! Its so easy, and whenever you are ready to have that third baby (if ever) then you just go into the dr and bam! 5 minutes later you are free to go get impregnated! ( and i hear that once you remove it, most get preggo pretty quickly!)

For me, paragard. I had my 1st, was on the pill (which I'm not good about taking) and then got pregnant with #2. They're 14 months apart, and so I needed to wait to get pregnant again. I got Mirena, had migraines and weight gain and acne. I kept it for a year to see if it would improve. It didn't. So I changed to paragard. Very happy with it. When I wanted to have my 3rd, I took it out, and got pregnant in like 3 days. #3 is now 9 weeks old, and we just put paragard back in. I'm bf'ing and no problems at all.

Mirena IUD is awesome!!! not affect BFing--I got it when my baby was 6 weeks old, BF'ed for a year. Light periods--don't even use tampons! I'm not one to feel confident about remembering a pill every day so, this works great for me!

Have you checked out NFP? No hormones, no doctor's visits, no medical waste. The "Greenest" you can be. You and your husband just keep track of your basal (waking) temps and cross check that with your vaginal mucous.

I've had Mirena for about 3.5 years now and I LOVE it! I've never had a problem with any negative side effects. I used to have really horrible, heavy periods and I haven't had a real period since about 2 months after I first got Mirena. Once in a great while, I might get a little spotting, but I don't even need to use a panty liner. I will definitely be getting another once my current one expires.

I've never tried Paraguard, but I think IUDs in general are great. You don't have to worry about taking a pill each day and high effectiveness rate. I've just found Mirena to be really worry-free birth control.
