Has anyone every experienced a negative HPT for weeks, but to later get a positive HPT around 10 weeks after conception?
I have read that some women didn't get a positive HPT till after 10 weeks. I wondering how true this is.
I have irregular periods. I have been keeping track of them for over a year now, for me my average cycle is around 40 days. With the longest cycle being 50 (Aug. of last year) But I chalked that up to stress due to husband losing his job 2 weeks after I had decided to quit mine and also finding out that my best friend was pregnant after only try for a month.
Anyways currently I am going on 87 days since my last period and that period was very light. I have taken 2 test both negative. I am currently coming up on 10 weeks from the time I think I could have conceived. I have a hard time believing that something wouldn't have showed up by now.
I don't have a lot of symptoms either my breast aren't sore but my bra has felt tighter lately. I get headaches all the time so that don't count along with nausea. It takes a lot for me to actually throw up. So I just don't know.
Wondering if anyone else has ever experienced any of this.
Thanks for all your answers, now to answer some of yours:
I have been checked for PCOS as well as my prolactin levels all came back normal I have also had my thyroid checked it was fine as well.
I don't know if or when I ovulated
I am taking Pre-natal vitamins I have been for over a year now.
All I know is I have never had this long of a cycle before. I will be making an appt. with a Dr. asap.
Thanks again

My question would be....are you positive you ovulated? Do you know the date you ovulated? If you don't ovulate, you won't have a period. I agree with Sherri. I too have PCOS and have gone months without a period. I have also ovulated on day 60+. However, PCOS also makes most people annovulatory. I would suggest contacting your OB. They will run tests to see if you are pregnant, and if not, give you medication to start your period. If you are TTC, you should start charting to see if you even ovulate. If you don't ovulate, you will need to see a RE (reproductive specialist), to get help with ovulating.
Dear A. R.
There are many pregnancy tests that are not accurate. FIRST RESPONSE claims they have the highest accuracy which is 99%. The difference between 97% and 99% is huge.
You can go 2 months without a period and on the 3rd month start your period.
The other confusing issues are you could have been pregnant and now your not which takes the body 60 to 90 days to return to normal for many women.
The answer is yes to your first question.
This could be a false pregnancy which effect 27% of women who get pregnant.
If you are not yet on a prenatal, don't wait to see if you are pregnant. The neurological system of the child is developed during the first 3 to 6 month. Don't take any chances.
Give yourself 2 more weeks to be certain if you are pregnant. 12 weeks is usually the maximum limit on whatever may be going on.

False negatives are very very rare. I've never heard of not getting
a positive until 10 weeks, because HCG can ( a lot of the time) be detected 2 weeks after conception and can then be detected throughout the rest of the pregnancy. If you were 10 weeks pregnant, you would have enough HCG hormones to get a positive test. The HCG hormone build and builds, reaching it's peak from 9-12 weeks and tapering of at 12 weeks. (But, once you're pregnant, it will always test that you are, unless there is a loss) I really think you would be getting a positive test, since you are reaching the peak time of the hormones.
You're periods are already very irregular, the symptoms sound like a hormone issue. This might not apply to you at all, but...I've known several people who were really trying to get pregnant and swore they had all kinds of pregnancy symptoms, but they weren't actually pregnant. I think this might happen a lot with woman who are actively trying to conceive. I think our minds convince us when we want something really badly. I hope that doesn't sound insensitive to say, I'm really not trying to be.
I'm obviously not a medical Dr. and I suppose anything could happen...get a blood test just to be sure. That might be the only way you won't feel in limbo.
I'm sorry to say, that if HPTs are coming back negative, I'd say you're not pregnant. You need to call your OB/GYN and see why you're cycle is out of whack. Could be stress. Stress could also be the cause of your headaches and nausea as well. I had long cycles after I got off birth control several years ago. My doctor put me on hormone treatment to get it going again. Good luck!
Your cycles are PCOS to a T. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is what I have, and millions of other gals are suffering as well. I have gone well over a year between cycles a couple of times in my life. I thought I was just lucky until I was diagnosed, and this is a more complicated life-long disorder that can lead to cardiovascular problems and lots of other issues. Please check out www.soulcysters.net to see if you can get info and help with trying for a baby. A reproductive endocrinologist is the right doc to see, and I would suggest getting in as soon as possible to work on pregnancy and overall hormonal health. Most of us with PCOS can eventually get the families we dream of. :o) Best wishes to you!
